B i o g r a p h y
 (by MacKenzie Wilson)

Not playing into her androgynous-sounding performing name, A Girl Called Eddy matches the grace of Karen Carpenter and the brutal honesty of Aimee Mann and Beth Orton. She emerged in the thicket of pop radio queens (Jessica Simpson, Avril Lavigne) during summer 2004 and introduced a sophisticated reflection of songs on her self-titled debut. A Girl Called Eddy never really had a plan to do it this way, however. Having already gone through a divorce and worked various mediocre jobs, A Girl Called Eddy wasn't satisfied living the American life. Music had been a magical part of her life. A healthy dose of Frank Sinatra and Tommy Dorsey from her parents provided A Girl Called Eddy, born Erin Moran, an escape from growing up on the Jersey shore. Once her mother had passed away in the late '90s, A Girl Called Eddy's adulthood came to a halt. Music was her therapy and again a positive outlet for her to be herself comfortably. She soon began singing backing vocals and playing keyboards for singer/songwriter Francis Dunnery and got the chance to tour Great Britain. It was right around this time that A Girl Called Eddy acquired her gender-bending nickname. In 2001, she issued her debut EP, Tears All Over Town on Le Grand Magistery. Several independent labels soon wooed her with record deals, but once more A Girl Called Eddy found herself in England. A chance meeting with Richard Hawley (Pulp, Longpigs) led her to set up shop in his Sheffield abode for what would become her proper first album. A Girl Called Eddy appeared on Anti in August 2004.

A girl called Eddy

*** Thanx a lot to Ashley for these lyrics ***

Tears all over town

Ride the subway home
Pretend that you're not home
When somebody calls you
But nobody calls you

And it's me who loves you still
And I always will

But there are tears all over town
Too many tears all over this town
There are tears all over town
Too many tears

Once there were trumpets in the air
And confetti in your hair
And I knew where I belonged
Now I'm singing you this song

And every star that fell that night
We reached for it all you know we tried

But there are tears all over town
Too many tears all over this town
There are tears all over town
Too many tears

I'm scattered like newspapers all over the street
I see your face in everyone I meet
I'm avoiding the corners
I'm avoiding your name
I know that I loved you but I loved you in vain

And this city's too small for two
My melancholy friend and you

And these tears all over town
Too many tears all over this town
Tears all over town
Too many tears all over this town
Too many tears
Too many tears...

Kathleen

If I don't laugh i'll cry
At all the years going by
Why is it so hard
To say your name tonight

This little room we called home
These things I thought that we owned
And our small piece of the sky

Where did you go
Where did you go

Oh Kathleen
All of the stars in the sky
Went out one by one the day you said goodbye
I still can see your face

Kathleen
All of this got in our way
And left us always waiting for the day
When things were gonna change
And life would re-arrange for us

Oh Kathleen
You're still the same to me

Where was that place in the sun
We used to chase then would run from it
Well since you're gone I'm done
With it for good

Where did you go
Where did you go

Oh Kathleen
All of the stars in the sky
Went out one by one the day you said goodbye
I still can see your face

Kathleen
All of this got in our way
And left us always waiting for the day
When things were gonna change
And life would re-arrange for us

Oh Kathleen
Kathleen
Kathleen
Kathleen

Girls can really tear you up inside

There's a girl whose stuck inside a picture frame
She's seen your face her mother's mentioned once your name
She sits and dreams her fifteen year old dreams of what to do
She's heard you sing and that your eyes are very very very blue

Why do you run
Why do you hide
From all you are
You're just a man

But she could tear you up inside
Tear you up inside
She could tear you up inside
Tear you up inside

She has a home outside this little picture frame
You're not in it and she wants someone to blame
Do you remember what it's like to be that young
All the pages that are blank all the songs yet to be sung

Why do you run
Why do you hide
From all she is
She's just a girl

But girls can tear you up inside
Tear you up inside
They could tear you up inside
Tear you up inside

If there are words you want to say
She's waiting for that rainy, that rainy day

Why do you run
Why do you hide
From all she is
She's just a girl
Tear you up inside
You're just a boy
Tear you up inside
They could tear you up inside
Tomorrow's gonna comes anyway
And you can see it in the inside
They could tear you up inside
Tear you up inside...

The long goodbye

You stormed my winter palace
You rid my heart of every bit of malice baby
You're how I won the war
Now your bags are packed
Your walking out the door
In every way
There is nothing to say anymore

This is the long goodbye
Maybe the tears will never dry
This is the long goodbye

Take your records, leave me mine
You're the one who said
We lived it all on the borrowed time
So, at the end of the day
There was nothing to say anymore

This is the long goodbye
Maybe the tears will never dry
This is the long goodbye
Leaving the past and you behind
This is the long goodbye

Take a good look, make it last
And when you've found the moments' past
Just remember that
Nobody loved you like me
Nobody loved you like me
Nobody loved you like me
Nobody loved you... like me

This is the long goodbye
Maybe the tears will never dry
This is the long goodbye
Leaving the past and you behind
This is the long goodbye
I'm out of words, I'm out of time
This is the long goodbye
This is the long goodbye
This is the long goodbye

*** Thanx a lot to Barbara who corrected this one ***

Somebody hurt you

Boy
Somebody hurt you
Boy
I wish I knew who
Could look
Into your sad eyes
And make
Such a sweet thing cry

You're lonely like only the broken can know
Aching for love but afraid to show
See how I miss you

Boy
Someone might hurt you
But it would never be me
I'd wrap you inside me
Be free or just hide for awhile

'Cause I'm lonely like only the broken can know
Aching for love but afraid to show
Lonely like only the broken can be
Breaking my own heart to make you see
See how I miss you

Please don't run away from the things that are real
And don't be afraid of whatever you feel
I'm feeling it too
I'm feeling it too

Boy
If you go looking
For things like in younger days
There won't be an answer
Only love can change your ways

Your lovely like only the broken can know
Aching for love but afraid to show
Lonely like only the broken can be
Breaking your own heart to make me see

See how I miss you
Boy, somebody hurt you
Boy, somebody hurt you
Boy, somebody hurt you
Boy, somebody hurt you
Boy, somebody hurt you
Boy, somebody hurt you
Boy

People used to dream about the future

Drinking our coffee
It's a quarter to three
No one in this place
Just us and our mistakes
You in the corner
That stupid smile
On your face
Tell me is there a way to replace
All the dreams
That didn't come true
Once we were happy

Once we were people
Who used to dream about the future
Once we were people
With stars in our eyes

Do you remember when I was your
'Alice blue gown'
And you were the handsome young
Prince in his crown
Now the rain hits the roof
And your realize
That even your youth has let you down
Oh don't go cry in your beer
'Cause it all ends in tears
Remember when we were happy

Once we were people
Who used to dream about the future
Yeah, once we were people
With stars in our eyes

Once we were people
Who used to dream about the future

But where did it all go
Where did it all go
Where did it all go

When did we stop taking pictures
And when did you lose all your fight
And where did you sign
Give up and resign
I never gave up on you
No, I never gave up on you

Once we were people
Who used to dream about the future
Once we were people
With stars in our eyes

Once we were people
Once we were people

Heartache

Where did those crass band mornings go
And the dreaming over tea
God only knows
Was it so long ago
Your tried to let me know

You'd seen this face
Somewhere before
Now you know for sure
That you can call him

Heartache
Yes, you can call him that
You can call him
Heartache
You'll never take it back

Once there was spring inside his eyes
Now there's only autumn winds
And sad grey skies
And I'm such a fool
To think that I
Could change the rules
I'd seen his face
Somewhere before
Now I know for sure

That you can call him
Heartache
You can call him that
You can call him
Heartache
You'll never take it back

And you can call him
Heartache
Yes, you can call him that
You can call him
Heartache
You'll never take it back

You've seen his face
Somewhere before
Now you know for sure

Life thru the same lens

We see life through the same lens
That's what you said to me
And I knew that it was true
Until you threw my heart in the sea

How do I adjust my vision
How do I pretend not to feel
How do I act like we never met
When everything is telling me it was oh so real

If it's life on the defence
The stinging pain of being made to fool
All the cynics and the irony
Won't save you when you're drowning
In loves' sweet pool

How do I adjust my vision
How do I pretend not to feel
How do I act like we never met
When everything is telling me it was oh so real
Baby, baby

It's only fair that you tell me
Just what it was you think I did wrong
If I was looking through the same lens
My prescription must've been all wrong

How do I adjust my vision
How do I pretend not to fell
How do I act like we never kissed
When everything is saying it was oh so real

If we saw through the same lens
Then you'd see I want you here right now
Instead of waiting for the day
When memory has clouded
Everything we loved about it

How do I adjust my vision
How do I pretend not to feel
How do I act like we never met
When everything is telling me it was oh so real

How do you adjust your vision
How do you pretend not to care
How do I act like we never met
And that you didn't see
What we know was there baby
Baby

Did you see the moon tonight

Did you see the moon tonight
Did it shine the way I asked it to
By the time it made it's way to you
Instead of me
Inside your room tonight

It will dance across your floor
Make you remember more
Then you might want it to
But I want you to
Remember me

If you see the moon tonight
I hope it finds you all alone
Maybe sitting by the phone
Kinda sad and glad to be unhappy
'Cause your missing me
Like I'm missing you

If you see the moon tonight
If you do, don't close your eyes
You might get a big surprise
I might just fly across the ocean
And materialize
Then I could tell you that it's true
That I'm the one who turned it white to blue
Just for you, just for you

Tonight
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight

Little bird

Just like a little bird
Inside a little cage
Trying to find the strength
To learn to turn the page

Just like a mermaid
I am trapped under the sea
Trying to understand
What life wants me to be

Heroes and villains
And old lovers walk by
They tip their hats but
They never answer why

Why does it always seem
To bring me back to this
Searching for home
In someone else's gentle kiss
Searching for home in places
Home just don't exist

Heroes and villains
And old lovers walk by
They tip their hats but
They never answer why

So just like the mermaid
I will swim up to the light
Just like that little bird
It's time for me to fly

Golden

Last night I dreamed
While I was walking that I died looking up
At fancy buildings and skyscrapers
Are real heartbreakers
When your time has come and gone
It could've been all yours for a song

Of all the things I ever wanted
It was you
And love and freedom
But I was a girl haunted
In the blue, undaunted

Just swimming for the shore
Wondering what the hurt is for

But tonight I know why I'm here
I don't need to lose you to know
That it's already golden

Tonight I know in my heart
I don't need to die just to see
That it's already golden
That it's already golden

So take the purple
And take the black
And take all the colors of heartache back
And throw them in the sea
And say you love me
Keep the silver, keep the gold
Stay wand watch the world get old

'Cause tonight I know why I'm here
I don't need to lose you to know
That It's already golden

Tonight I know in my heart
I don't need to die just to see
That it's already golden
It's already golden
It's already golden
It's already golden
It's already golden
It's already golden

Come to me gently
Come to me easy
Come to me clearly

Come to me softly
Come to me gently
Come to me easy
Come to me clearly

Come to me softly
Come to me gently
Come to me easy

Fun Fair

This one's for you
Beaming of blue
Now it's your turn for a ride
You're chasing me in the neon night
Your eyes so bright in the night

Forever more
You locked the door to your tender heart
Oh can't you see the child in me
Oh don't worry now

You're changing fast
And seconds last
A blinking flash in the night
Your kisses sweet
I feel so weak
I try to hide from your sight

Just for a while give me a smile
So clear and new
So I can see the child in you
Oh don't worry now

Collect your price
Let's do it nice
And peacefully
Pull apart

I try to be the one you see
But now I'm left in the dark
In the dark

You're Not Mine

If I sound crazy it's 'cause I am
I swear I'm tired of pretending like I just don't care
'Cause you'd see through it anyway
No matter what I say about it
It's easy, I know, to just let go
I shouldn't have let my feelings show

I see it all before me in basic black and white
You got simple conversations
No reasons to fight
But you're so technicolor
That it makes me sad to think
Oh she'll lead you to the water
But you'll never get a drink

'Cause she's safe and she's fine
And she's yours
You're not mine
She's everything a girl should be
Yes, she's high when you're low
There's no chance she'll ever let you go
Things are sometimes just like what they seem

And I know you wish I didn't talk about it
I wish I wasn't so sure about it
And I'm always gonna feel the same about you
If she wasn't here I'd put my arms around you
It's easy, I know, to just let go
And go for what you know is sure
Oh sure I know

Yes, she's safe and she's fine
And she's yours
You're not mine
She's everything a man could dream
Yes, she's high when you're low
There's no chance you'll ever let her go
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
Things are sometimes just like what they seem

I know you wish I didn't talk about it
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
I know you wish I didn't talk about it
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
I know you wish I didn't talk about it
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
I know you wish I didn't talk about it
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
I know you wish I didn't talk about it
Things are sometimes just like what they seem
I know you wish I didn't talk about it

Trust Your Buddy

Don't turn back
Make up your mind
Don't feel scared
I'm right behind

There's somebody if you need a buddy
Won't let you slip away hey, hey
When nobody can be found I promise it's me
At the end of the day

Don't forget what's real and true
Don't regret what we've been through

There's somebody who will be your buddy
Won't let you slip away hey, hey
When there's nobody you can trust your buddy
At the end of the day

Who else you're gonna run to
Who else you're gonna tell your secrets to
Who else is gonna love you like I do

There's somebody if you need a buddy
Won't let you slip away hey, hey
When nobody can be found I promise it's me
At the end of the day

Take My Hand

My love will never reach an end
We part but then we'll meet again
In the depths of confusion
Only love's no illusion
Don't you understand
Won't you take my hand

If I allow myself to cry
Those tears they wouldn't tell a lie
All I need is affection
And I crave your attention
Don't you realize
Won't you close your eyes

It's all because of you
You make it seem oh so true
Won't you listen with sympathy
Just lay your head to lean on me

Our love is never meant to die
Why can't we give it another try
If there is no perfection
Only love brings direction
Don't you understand
Won't you take my hand

Fairweather Friend

Picking up on that they sold you down the river
Picking up on that they won't be back again

When you go down for the third time
When you went down they paid you no mind
And then once you close your eyes
Everything will be alright
Won't you say goodbye
To fairweather friend

Picking up on that he's in it for the money, honey
Picking up on that you gave him your last dime

When you went you down for the last time
When you go down they pay you no mind
And they always close their eyes
Holding out for sunny skies
Won't you say goodbye
To fairweather friend

Yeah, they always close their eyes
Holding out for sunny skies
Won't you say goodbye
To fairweather friend

Lazy

I'm lazy
Yes, I'm lazy
And I do my best
That's what I'm like really

I'm lazy
Yes, I'm lazy
I give myself a rest
That's what I'm like, baby

I am a loner
And I've learned the price
A free-form thinker
Never do it twice

Oh I'm lazy
Yes, I'm lazy
And I do my best
That's what I'm like really

I'm lazy
Yes, I'm lazy
I give myself a rest
That's what I'm like, baby

I am a loner
And I've paid the price
A free-form thinker
Never do it twice

I am the roller
And I trust the dice
A sleepy believer
I take no advice

Talk To Me

Standing here
Darling, I want to help you find the words
From your heart
Every feeling, every noun and verb

We don't have time to get
Lost in translation
It's tearing us apart this
Language that we don't speak
Painting a picture bleak if you don't

Talk to me
(I want you, I need you to)
Talk to me
(I want you, I need you)
I'll talk to you
Just us two
Oh baby, won't cha

Talk to me
(I want you, I need you to)
Talk to me
(I want you, I need you)
I'll talk to you
Just us two

Darling, dear, don't put it in a letter
Ne le mets pas dans une lettre
Darling, dear, don't write it in a book
Ne l'écris pas dans un livre

We don't have time to get
Lost in translation
(Lost in translation)
It's tearing us apart this
Language that we don't speak
Connection's what I seek
Oh baby

Talk to me
(I want you, I need you to)
Talk to me
(I want you, I need you)
I'll talk to you
Just us two
Oh baby, won't cha

Talk to me
(I want you, I need you to)
Talk to me
(I want you, I need you)
I'll talk to you
Just us two

(Lost in translation)

Talk to me
(I want you, I need you to)
Talk to me
(I want you, I need you)
I'll talk to you
Just us two
Oh baby, won't cha

Talk to me
(I want you, I need you to)
Talk to me
(I want you, I need you)
I'll talk to you
Just us two

Die Cast

You're the feeling that I want around me
You're the feeling that I need
Warm aluminum and love surround me
You're the book I have to read

I want to show you
I want to kiss you
I want to make it true
A metal hold upon my soul
Nothing compares
Nothing compares

You're die cast in my heart
Forever
You're die cast in my heart

You're die cast in my heart
Forever
You're die cast in my heart

I want to hold you
I want to touch you
I want to make it real
Surface unbreakable
Desire unshakeable
Nothing compares
Nothing compares

You're die cast in my heart
Forever
You're die cast in my heart

You're die cast in my heart
Forever
You're die cast in my heart

Tears

Tears are always the same
They're pouring again for this love
Na na na na na
Tears in yellow and blue
On Sixth Avenue for this love
Na na na na na

Tears exploding again
We used to be friends, now it's gone
Na na na na na
Tears they're wasted alone
I wanna go home in the moonlight
Na na na na na

Tears can crystalize your vision
In your eyes a new decision

Tears in yellow and blue

Places

Places I keep missing the faces
Of the friends I used to know
Where did the years all go
Never ending recollections keep creeping in
Every corner and boulevard
Back in the old schoolyard

Life is cruel
Wish I was making the rules
Wish that I could put those happy times in little cans
And keep them near and close at hand

All of these moments they shouldn't go away
So I'd be constantly happy
Even the failures could last another day
It's everything that I'm missing
Forever I need them to make it better
I love them all
Whatever I wish they would leave me never

Traces of those Saturday kisses
Like the sand washes over me
Tell me, could it really be
That places hold inside of them memories
Watch them all roll out to sea
Only you ever had the key

Life is cruel
Wish I was making the rules
Wish that I could put those happy times in little cans
And keep them near and close at hand

All of these moments they shouldn't go away
So I'd be constantly happy
Even the failures could last another day
It's everything that I'm missing
Forever I need them to make it better
I love them all
Whatever I wish they would leave me never

All of these moments they shouldn't go away
So I'd be constantly happy
Even the failures could last another day
It's everything that I'm missing
Forever I need them to make it better
I love them all
Whatever I wish they would leave me never
Never, never

They're all a part of me

Photographs

Hundreds of photographs
That we paste in a book
Bring me back with a look
It's in the past drifting back

Hundreds of promises
That we wrecked on the shore
Like the smile that you wore
It's in the past nothing more

Christmas mornings
Palace of Versailles
Midnight drunk with arms around the world
Captured still frames
Of you and me games
Like they say the camera never lies

Hundreds of photographs
That we paste in a book
Bring me back with a look

Been Around

Been Around

Girl, where have you been

Been around enough to know I'm broken
Been around enough to know nothing's sure
Been around enough to be a little grateful
Been around enough to miss my heart when it was pure
Been around enough to know the story
Been around enough to know how it ends
Been around enough to tell the smoke from the mirror
Been around enough to tell the true from fair-weather friends

I've been around enough to dry some tears
Been around enough to trace the years upon my face
This is the place I'm happy to be

Been around enough to know that winter
Is gonna guarantee another spring
Cage a singin' bluebird and you'll never
Never ever get that bird to sing
Been around enough to know I'm lonesome
Been around enough to know it'll pass
If I give it time and maybe open my heart
Been around enough to know the die is never cast

Carrying around the weight of a lifetime of dreaming
Never really seen the end of the road
If losers never quit then I'm thoroughly equipped
To keep on keeping on
Keep on keeping on

Been around, around, been around...

Big Mouth

Lately every word I say to you is coming out wrong
Baby, you're making me feel like I just don't belong

You break my heart and then you do it all again
It's just the things I say keep getting in the way

Every time I go and open my big mouth
What's it all about
Everytime I go and open my big mouth
What's it all about
I just can't win

You got a way of talking to me honey
Makes me feel dumb
Twisting and turning every word that's on the
Tip of my tongue

You break my heart and then you do it all again
It's just the things I say keep getting in the way

Every time I go and open my big mouth
What's it all about

I just can't ever win
We go round, round, round

Pick apart the feelings like shadows on the ceiling
I stop before I start
All your judge and jury it's tearing me apart
I just can't win

Jody

Jody was a friend of mine
Met him back in '89
He was drummer
Liked to walk from Brooklyn down
Into the city
Watchin' every girl go by

You know he did
You know he did

Jody wore his clothes real tight
Rude T-shirts and leather
Jody had a camera's eye
He liked taking pictures
Of girls you'd never see in Vogue
'Cause he believed
All women were a sight to behold

You know he did

We talked about movies and Cuddles Sakall
Hours on the phone about nothing at all
He liked to call me kid, I liked it when he did

Jody was a friend, Jody was a friend of mine

I miss him so, I miss him so

Jody said he had a brother, wrote a song for Peggy Lee
Jody moved down south to Tallapoosa back in 2003
I never saw his face again on Greene Street not
A trace again
Jody didn't like everybody but I'm glad he liked me

We talked about movies and Cuddles Sakall
Hours on the phone about nothing at all
He liked to call me kid, I liked it when he did

Jody was a friend, Jody was a friend of mine

Charity Shop Window

She saw his coat in the charity shop window
Where the past lives on at a bargain price
Long ago dreams find another chance to live again

Memories are cheap in the charity shop window
She can almost hear if she really tries
The sound of his voice
And their first hello
Their last goodbye

Typewriters, guitars
Autographs of the stars
Her heart's like some forgotten souvenir

Broken 45's
Other people lives
Books half read, love gone dead

A wedding dress promise yellowed with age
She just can't turn the page

She saw his coat in the charity shop window
As the rain and the wind blows
She can almost hear if she really tries
Their first hello their last goodbye

She just can't turn the page

Someone's Gonna Break Your Heart

Might be on the street, maybe on the train
Might be in the dark standing in the rain

Maybe not tonight, might not be today
But I promise you it's gonna happen anyway

Ooh - when you least expect it
Ooh - that's when it's gonna get you
Watch out, watch out

Someone's gonna break your heart
Someone's gonna hurt you bad
Someone's gonna talk so sweet
Someone's gonna break you
Someone's gonna make you cry

And I hope it's soon
And I hope you do see
That bitter smile smiling back at you
Baby when it does
You won't see me cry
No, I won't mind at all when she tells you lies

Ooh - when you least expect it
Ooh - that's when it's gonna get you
Watch out, watch out

Someone's gonna break your heart
Someone's gonna hurt you bad
Someone's gonna talk so sweet
Someone's gonna break you
Someone's gonna make you cry

Before we say goodbye
As sure as the sun's gonna shine
You don't have a bulletproof heart
Baby it's just like mine

Someone's gonna break your heart
Someone's gonna hurt you bad
Someone's gonna talk so sweet
Someone's gonna break you
Someone's gonna make you cry

Not That Sentimental Anymore

Have I grown up or just grown old
Is it there's no one to hold
The state of my heart has got me alarmed
When life has lost all, it's charm

I hate to admit but everything's changed
The pictures have all re-arranged
What brought me to tears just yesterday
Now only gets in my way
You can wax romantic (till the cows come home)
It won't make any difference
Think I'm turning into stone

I thought I was but maybe I'm
Not that sentimental anymore
I thought I was but baby I'm
Not that sentimental anymore

No more swooning at Annie Hall
'Cause I've become the Berlin Wall
No manipulating string lines
They broke my heart enough times
Should I give up or call it a day
The memories are fading away
Where do you turn when nothing's the same
When you're tired of playing the game

Two Hearts

Two hearts
Hearts like lonely blackbirds
Tapping at the window
Hiding from the rain
Two hearts
Hearts that want the same thing
Both of them believing
That they will find the love they're missing

Oh baby, won't cha call my name
'Cause I can't sleep
And I can't dream alone
I've been waiting all my life
In a tower above
If I can't find a way to win your love
I'll wait for you

Two hearts
Hearts like lonely blackbirds
Flying through the grey skies
Hiding from the pain
Two hearts
Pulling on the same string
Moonlight on the same wing
Until they find the love they're missing

Oh baby, won't cha call my name
'Cause I can't sleep
And I can't dream alone
I've been waiting all my life
In a tower above
If I can't find a way to win your love
I'll wait for you

Oh baby, won't cha call my name
'Cause I can't sleep
And I can't dream alone
I've been waiting all my life
In a tower above
If I can't find a way to win your love
I'll wait for you
I'll wait for you
I'll wait for

Lucky Jack (20-1)

Old man every now and then
I want to know why you left
Why it was so easy to forget
Old man from the look of it
You're the lucky one
You learned to run
And everytime we thought that it was over and done
Just like the sun you'd come back again

Old man everybody said
I was the apple of your roving eye
Why'd you always have to make her cry
Old man she gave the world to you
You turned her heart black and blue
She even turned her pretty hair
From brunette to blonde
No magic wand could ever make you stay

Why was there always something better out there
Cheap perfume and women named Nancy
Or whatever tickled your fancy

Old man every now and then
I want to know why you left
Why it was so easy to let go
Old man tears and cigarettes and all your pony bets
They're all off now
And everytime we thought that it was over and done
Just like the sun you'd come back again

Come To The Palisades!

Funny how we still remember
Words to the song they played
Ghosts of a teenage summer
Come to the Palisades
And like a fade to black
It all remains intact

You and your rollercoasters
Me and my souvenirs
Death defying kisses in the funhouse
We got drunk on love and beer
A polaroid of you from 1982

(Ooh wee ooh)
The memory makes me lonely
(Ooh wee ooh)
It's makin' me wanna cry
(Ooh wee ooh)
Why'd we every have to say goodbye
Come to the Palisades

We'd sit and watch the moon rise on the water
A pirate's son and Neptune's daughter
Said we'd always stay
Said we'd never change

Palisades swings all day or after dark
There's still a trace of you in my heart

And like a fade to black
It all remains intact
We can never go back

(Ooh wee ooh)
The memory makes me lonely
(Ooh wee ooh)
It's makin' me wanna cry
(Ooh wee ooh)
Why'd we every have to say goodbye
Come to the Palisades

Finest Actor

He was the finest actor of his generation
He sure fooled me

He was the finest actor of his generation
Left all his stand-ins behind in the dust at Penn Station
He sure fooled me

He moved like De Niro and talked like O'toole
Inside I was scared but he made me feel cool
He smelled of tobacco guilt and red wine
And sooner or later the guilt it was mine

He played to the camera instead of with me
Said, "Honey, don't pin your hopes on a ship lost at sea"
He could've been Burton, Harris or Dean
They could've been moments but they were just scenes

He was the finest actor of his generation
In retrospect there's no doubt that he's found his vocation
He sure fooled me
He sure fooled me

NY Man

Oh NY man
Better than the other man
Oh NY man
You're the only thing I understand

Since I left the neighborhood
My spirits gone and I'm not feeling so good
And everything you said would happen all came true
They do things really different here
They don't do like you do

Oh NY man
I hear the subway see us walking hand in hand
On autumn afternoons
Smoking on fire escapes through summer moons

Since I left the neighborhood
My song is sad and I'm not feeling so good
I called you from the airport just to say hello
I wanted you to stop me
Not to let me go
I liked the me that I was when I was with you

Oh NY man
I left rich but I'm back cap-in-hand
Oh what a fall it's true I've made a mess of it all

Since I left the neighborhood
My spirits gone and I'm not feeling so good

Pale Blue Moon

Once in a while the night in its stillness
Under a pale blue moon
We all fall in love
You can't keep it in if you try
Don't know why

Once in your life you might find them
Sparks in an autumn sky
You'll be caught between
What you wish for and the thing you can't deny

And it's a pale blue moon tonight

Baby Plays Around

( Elvis Costello Cover / Somebody hurt you - EP )

It's not open to discussion anymore
She's out again tonight
And I'm alone once more
She's all I have worth waiting for
But baby plays around

And so it seems
I've always been the last to know
To hold on to that girl
I had to let her go
I wish to God
I didn't love her so
Baby plays around

I try to be strong
Hold on to my pride
She doesn't even know it's wrong
How much I hurt Inside
And heaven knows I've tried
But baby plays around
Just a plaything
It's hard to reconcile
The facts I'm facing

It's not open to discussion anymore
She walks those shiny streets
I walk the worn out floor
She's all I have worth living for
Baby plays
Baby plays
Around

Girls Can Really Tear You Up Inside EP Version

( Tears All Over Town EP )

What do you do in the morning
What do you do at the rising shine
After your coffee, after your tea
Do you ever think of me

Killing Time

(The Last Detail / Places EP)

Lately there's a dark cloud hanging
In my head and in my heart
Just like in a dime store novel
We're getting to the saddest part

You're never satisfied
My friends give bad advice
It's keeping me up at night
Something just isn't right
Honey, we gave it a real good fight

But I know we were more than willing
But we're both just killing time

Over and over round we go
Where does it ever stop I never know

Blue sky on a purple dawning
Didn't heed the warning signs
Like the note left on my pillow
On a cold grey morning
There's always somebody left behind

I'm never satisfied
Your friends give bad advice
It's keeping you up at night
Something just isn't right
Honey, we gave it a real good fight

So now if it's really over
Let's stop wasting good red wine
Just save it for another lover
'Cause we're both just killing time

Love Actually

Here
Left to my own devices
I just keep on moving from crisis to crisis
It's sad but true
Til I met you

I've been drifting from problem to problem
Open to find
Some kind of answers to solve them
It's sad but true
What can I do

Well, love actually love is one thing I can do
And give, give all the love and the world to you
Oh, love actually love is one thing I can do
And give, give all the love and my heart to you

But I can't keep money in my placket, no
And I can't keep time
And I can't keep saying no
To things my heart wants to say yes to

Well, love actually love is one thing I can do
And give, give all the love and the world to you
Oh, love actually love is one thing I can do
And give, give all the love and my heart to you

Ba da ba da…

The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot

( Nat King Cole cover / Blue Christmas LP )

He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot
And goodness knows he didn't want a lot

He sent a note to Santa
For some soldiers and a drum
It broke his little heart
When he found Santa hadn't come

In the street he envies all those lucky boys
Then wanders home to last year's broken toys
I'm so sorry for that laddie
He hasn't got a daddy
The little boy that Santa Claus forgot

You know, Christmas comes but once a year for every girl and boy
The laughter and the joy, they find in each brand new toy
I'll tell you of a little boy that lives across the way
This little fella's Christmas is just like any other day
He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot
And goodness knows, he didn't want a lot

In the street he envies all those lucky boys
Then wanders home to last year's broken toys
I'm so sorry for that laddie
He hasn't got a daddy
The little boy that Santa Claus forgot

The Same Old Tears

( Stephen Bishop cover / Tears All Over Town EP )

It's the same old tears on a new background
Seeing you as a fading photograph
It hurts too much to laugh these days

I'm all right
Yes, I'm all right
I'm all right

It's the same old song with a new melody
But this old candle's lingering flame is almost gone
To see you again is all that keeps me hanging on

But I'm all right
Yes, I'm all right
I'm all right

Remembering, remembering the familiar heartache
No one but you could ever make this dream come true

It's the same old me crying the same old tears
And I walk away like I always do
Still in love with you

But I'm all right
Yes, I'm all right
I’m all right

I'm all right
Yes, I'm all right
I'm all
I'm all right

The soundtrack of your life

( Tears All Over Town EP )

Fuzzes on buses and subway train
I'll keep on singing you settled a flame (?)
And if ignorance is blessed
Well sealed it with a kiss
But it was never supposed to end like this

This is the soundtrack of your life, baby
This is the soundtrack of your life, life

Well each step you take
You think you hear the sound of midnight cowboy
But it's just the clouds's putting your head on

Go and have another cigarette
And put out that you'll forget
What I meant to you was that's what you do

This is the soundtrack of your life, baby
This is the soundtrack of your life, life
This is the soundtrack of your life
This is the soundtrack of your life

Oh, I could have loved you, baby, 'til my dying day
Oh, why did you leave my heart on, my sweet, standing on Broadway
Standing on Broadway

Hmmm… I could have loved you, baby
Standing on Broadway

This is the soundtrack of your life, baby
This is the soundtrack of your life, life
This is the soundtrack of your life, life
This is the soundtrack of your life, life

Trash Core

(The Last Detail / Places EP)

We got the whole world at our feet
We were always meant to be

Under The Warm Sun

( The Long Goodbye EP )

Under the warm sun
Under the warm sun

I've found my way
It took a while
Now it's not hard
For me to smile
We found a place
Under the warm sun

Living a life
We always dreamed
Me loving you
You loving me
We found a place
Under the warm sun

And life is sweeter than I ever thought it could be
If you'd have told me I never would have believed

The trouble can go
Back where it came
Give me some joy
You're all the same
We found a place
Under the warm sun

I've been so tired of being so cold
Just wanted that sunny place to grow old
Give up the chase
Under the warm sun

And life is sweeter than I ever thought it could be
If you'd have told me I never would have believed

I found my way
It took some time
Now we are here
Now we can shine
We found a place
Under the warm sun
Under the warm sun
Under the warm sun
Under the warm sun
Under the warm sun
