B i o g r a p h y
 (by Tammy La Gorce)

Born 29 years ago in Alabama, the ethereal-voiced Maria Taylor won over her first fans at age 15 as part of the Birmingham duo Little Red Rocket, a rock/pop group that brought comparisons to Belly. When that outfit, which issued two CDs — 1997's Who Did You Pay and 2000's It's in the Sound — disbanded after getting lost in the shuffle that was Geffen's merger with Universal Music Group, Taylor and her musical partner, Orenda Fink, relocated to Athens, Ga., and regrouped as Azure Ray. With help from Conor Oberst's well-trained ear, the Saddle Creek label act Now It's Overhead picked up on their plaintive pop sound and courted them to join. As half of that group, they signed to the Omaha, Neb.-based Saddle Creek while continuing their Azure Ray projects on the independent Warm Recordings. In 2001, both Azure Ray and Now It's Overheard released scantly received self-titled debuts; a year later, Taylor and Fink took up full-time residence in Omaha and released Burn and Shiver. The pair's third full-length, 2003's Hold on Love, released on Saddle Creek, brought it indie-scene raves on the merits of the singles "The Drinks We Drank Last Night" and "New Resolution." Fall Back Open, a Now It's Overheard set, was released in 2004 amid heavy touring. Having paid her dues by contributing lullaby-warm vocals to various projects by Moby, Bright Eyes, and Crooked Fingers, Taylor struck out on her own with 2005's 11:11. On it, she is by turns melancholy ("Birmingham 1982") and daring (the danceable "One for the Shareholder"). Throughout, she sounds like Ida's pillow-voiced Elizabeth Mitchell, but the wisdom, joy, and pain that pulse from her carefully crafted lyrics owe a debt to Carole King and Laura Nyro.

Leap Year

Save my money
For that plane ride
Horn of plenty
Heavy sunlight
Autumn's bounty
Bread and red wine
In a hurry
But there's so much time
I will wait for you
Growing love but like water
Time will always slip through
I will wait for you
But please come soon

The wind sounds angry
But my coat's kind
Wrapped in blankets
In the daylight
Winners longing
Some are close behind
In a hurry
But there's so much time

I will wait for you
Growing love but like water
Time will always slip through
I will wait for you

Is it in a plan
Written in your hand
Believe or understand
Something other than

Fear is blinding lights
Squeeze my eyes so tight
Could you make a flower grow
Would you let me know

I will wait for you
Growing love but like water
Time will always slip through
I will wait for you
But please come soon

Song Beneath The Song

Cryptic words meander
Now there is a song beneath the song
One day you'll learn
You'll soon discern its true meaning
An interesting detachment
A listless poem of love sincere
Desire, despair
Overlapping melodies

And it's not a love, it's not a love
It's not a love, it's not a love song
It's not a love, it's not a love, it's not a love song
It's not a love, it's not a love, it's not a love song

Oh now the roots are reminiscing
Recurring dreams of minor chords
Metred time
Muted chimes find the beat

And in the pulse there lies conviction
A steady push and pull routine
The cymbals swell
High notes flail into reach

And it's not a love, it's not a love
It's not a love, it's not a love song
It's not a love, it's not a love, it's not a love song
It's not a love, it's not a love, it's not a love song

It's not a love, it's not a love,
It's not a love, it's not a love song
It's not a love, it's not a love, it's not a love song
It's not a love, it's not a love, it's not a love song...

Two Of Those Two

There was a time two fearless minds
Where we packed up for a new place
A college town with a musical sound
And everyone had a new face
There was something there
Maybe it was the trees
Or the flowery air
Or that everyone seemed so glad
They were there
And we were two of those two
We were two of those two

We got a house in between a homeless shelter
And a coffee shop
We painted the walls until we couldn't reach
I said, "It looks cool this way, let's stop."

There were always people there
Maybe it was the music
We played on the record player
Or that everyone seemed so glad
They were there
And we were two of those two
We were two of those two

And those were the times
The quietest days
We'll sit and smile and remember
Nothing could feel the same
We were so free
We were in each passing second

And you can't sustain
Anything, everything must change
So be thankful for everything
And I am
I am
I am

Nature Song

When nature talks I'm not supposed to hear
I'm not supposed to know, don't I know
We never wore clothes, I let the feeling go
And let it fade inside
I know why I love I know
You're leaning down and gently you say "I want to leave"
Sure you can go but then you will sleep alone,
though that I'm yours
When nature walks I see it in your legs
There's something in your style
In the sun
You turned into the wind and took all my surprise
And like a million eyes on me, on me, on me

You're leaving now didn't you say "I want to leave"?
Anything else get it yourself and know what's mine's yours

When nature learns nothing's in control
And nothing stays the same in your way
It will not return until the season's change
And when it changes fine I'll go, I'll go, I'll go...

Light House

Watch the children sing, but not to be singers
And so hopeful, they still are believers
There's so much to do or say without repeating
And a sad story hoped she would keep reading
Maybe a message or just not perceiving
There's so much to do or say without repeating
So why don't we?
And don't expect too much, okay?
Cause the best, the worst might have passed anyway
And like the light house we watched it spin 'round and 'round
There's just some things
They aren't meant to touch the ground

Bada ba bada ba bada bum bum...

And let our legs just run, no concept of distance
And all these rules we've learned could make no difference
There's so much to do or say without repeating
And it's the subtle laugh that will keep ringing
And what was overlooked could now have meaning
There's so much to do or say without repeating
So why don't we?

And don't expect too much, okay?
Cause the best, the worst might have passed anyway
And like the light house we watched it spin 'round and 'round
There's just some things
They aren't meant to touch the ground

Bada ba bada ba bada bum bum...

One For The Shareholder

A dance, a bid, a matinee
It's a faint, a brief, affinity
It's a touch, when it shouldn't be
But it's all right
And it's a step but you're too quick to fall
Now a crash but it's just physical
Not a point, 'cept it's natural
But it's all right

Uh-uh

There's no burden that will agonize you
A worry that will weigh you down
Not the memories that hypnotize you
You won't turn around

You can't love me (x4)

A regret, it's undetectable
It's a shy display, nonemotional
It's a siren, barely audible
But it's all right

And it's an angle of the paradigm
It's a cold box of cheap red wine
It's the thought that gets lost in time
But it's all right

Uh-uh

There's no burden that will agonize you
A worry that will weigh you down
Not the memories that hypnotize you
You won't turn around

You can't love me (x4)

It's a shade of what it could not be (x3)
It's a shade, a shade

There's no burden that will agonize you
A worry that will weigh you down
Not the memories that hypnotize you
You won't turn around

You can't love me (x4)

Xanax

Afraid of an airplane
Of a car swerving in the lane
Of a dark cloud too low
Of being swept away by the undertow
Of a building tumbling down
Of the train when it's underground
Of the icy mountain roads
We have to take to get to the show

There's just a time when we must all let go of that that we hold
There's just a time when we must all let go of that that we hold
With not being known, we'll have to go

Afraid when the phone rings
Another breath of life has ceased
It seems it's just lost so easily

Afraid of my heart that beats too slow
Or that I died and just didn't know
Or of a fate I will have to choose
And I'm afraid of how much I love you

There's just a time when we must all let go of that that we hold
There's just a time when we must all let go of that that we hold
With not being known, we'll have to go

It's just now that I've found a place where I can breathe
It's just now that I've found a place where I can sleep
It's just now that I've found a place where I can breathe
It's just now that I've found a place where I can sleep
It's just now that I've found a place where I can breathe
It's just now that I've found a place where I can sleep
It's just now that I've found a place where I can breathe
It's just now that I've found a place where I can sleep

Birmingham 1982

Dinner call in the late afternoon
The sun step down for the moon
Story books, night lights
And I still remember songs
Pianos sing along
And the coloured sounds of spring
Its harmony
Do you still remember
Fireflies, four-leaf clovers
Fingerpainted skin
Where life was a reaction
And love was just laughing with a friend

Down out in the backyard stream
Make a wish for your dream
Maybe a kiss maybe a ring
And I still remember songs
The banjos sing along
And the crisp sound of fall
I still recall
Do you still remember

Flashlights under covers
Raindrops on my tongue
When life had no distractions
And love wasn't hurting anyone

Fireflies, four-leaf clovers
Fingerpainted skin
We don't know where we're going
We'll get nowhere if we've forgotten where we've been

We'll get nowhere if we've forgotten where we've been

Speak Easy

We'll bathe in rose petals, red
And lie in violet lilac beds
And through the darkness of the night
We'll watch our future shining bright
And out of everyone I've met
It's you I can't forget

And there was a time my heart was aching
Yes there was the day I swore it was breaking
Under a lucky star our love was born brand new

And in the shadows of the night
I'll trace your silhouette in candlelight
And if you fall asleep when you rise
I'll be there to kiss your eyes

And now my heart is in your hand
So baby, understand

And there was a time my heart was aching
Yes there was the day I swore it was breaking
Under a lucky star our love was born brand new

So don't cry, Angel
I will stay the whole night through
Forevermore, I'll be loving you

And there was a time my heart was aching
Yes there was the day I swore it was breaking
Under a lucky star our love was born brand new

So don't cry, Angel
I will stay the whole night through
Forevermore, I'll be loving you

Forevermore, I'll be loving you

Hitched!

Once upon a time in a place
Far, far away from here
Long, long ago
Where your eyes drift past distorted lies
And dreamed of a love to make you feel more alive
Be worth any compromise
A love that would always keep you surprised
And prove to be worth a fight

No more days too long
Pretty love songs you hum as you drive along
The same subtle note
And then you came in to say what your face already told

You said, You’d found her
And you would make her your bride
Stand by her until you died
Your tender eyes all glistened with pride
A smile so satisfied

Lynn Teeter Flower

A good start

You're one with the burden of intuition
You're one with the freedom of a blank stare
You're one with the best friend you lost you wish was still there

You're one with the dust on that old piano
You're one with the strings on your new guitar
You're one with the wind through the open window, you are

It was a faint line
That brought you here
And a pulse that kept you in time
It was the comfort of a tradition
But the fear that you were not that kind

And it's a shame now, baby, you can see yourself in everything you're running from
And it's the same world, honey, that has brought you down
As the one that's gonna pick you up, and pick you up

You're one with the echoes of conversation
You're one with the strangers you overheard
You're one with the lesson that was the best one you learned

It was a faint line that brought you here and a pulse that kept you in time
It was the comfort of a tradition but the fear that you were not that kind
But you are

And it's a shame now, baby, you can see yourself in everything you're running from
And it's the same world, honey, that has brought you down
As the one that's gonna pick you up, and pick you up

It was a long dark sleepy morning walk, you fell down facing up
It was a good start, it was a good start
It was a long dark sleepy morning walk, you fell down facing up
It was a good start, it was a good start

And it's a shame now, baby, you can see yourself in everything you're running from
And it's the same world, honey, that has brought you down as the one that's gonna pick you up
And it's a shame now, baby, you can separate yourself from where you stood
And it's the same world, honey, made you feel so bad as the one that made you feel so good, feel so good.

Clean getaway

I made my place by the door
I didn't know what i was waiting for
It felt just like home
Except no grass, no yard, no pictures hung

I could see across to the park
And there were friends
They were laughing hard
They looked just like my own
With no face, no name, no voice i know

I finally made it
I made a clean getaway
I finally made it
I made a clean getaway

I met someone at the bar
He had a great smile and a great heart
It felt just like love
Except no fear of losing and it wasn't tough

I finally made it
I made a clean getaway
I finally made it
I made a clean getaway
And i miss you
I miss you every single day

Smile and wave

She's got a rich sense of style
A believable smile
I don't
She paints colors on her eyes
That cast a shadow of surprise
I don't

She doesn't know i know about it
I just smile back when she waves
I could never do the same
I could never do the same

She keeps a spotless place
She has selective taste
I don't
She'll find out where you are
She'll send you birthday cards
I won't

She doesn't know i know about it
I'll just smile back when she waves
I could never do the same
I could never do the same

She doesn't know i know about it
I just smile back when she waves
I could never do the same
I could never do the same
I could never do the same

No stars

I saw the devil in a dream
He wore a three piece suit and smiling
He promised every living thing to me
And when the land was all despair
He made water spring from everywhere
Until the black hills went back to green

And then heat was tipping
And smoke was spilling
It poured out into the street
And i was frightened by my fearlessness
To be engulfed by everything

And what i knew was left behind
There were no stars for a wish to find
And there was nothing in my clenching fist
And i just can't wait for tomorrow
Cause i will let go just as you asked me (?)

I saw the devil in a dream
He wore faded jeans and smiling
He promised every hidden thing to me
And when a soul was in despair
He'd make confetti fall from everywhere
Until the restless eyes fell back to sleep

And then minds were tipping
And thoughts were spilling
They poured out into the street
And i was frightened by my fearlessness
To drown in everything

What i knew was left behind
There were no stars for a wish to find
And there was nothing in my clenching fist
And i just can't wait for tomorrow
Cause i will let go just as you asked me (?)

What i knew was left behind
There were no stars for a wish to find
And there was nothing in my clenching fist
And i just can't wait for tomorrow
Cause i will let go just as you asked me (?)

Replay

There's some things she needs to verify
Could you bring forth an alibi
Cause she was always in between
The jury and the attorney
You give an ultimatum he will decline
And he was undecided most of the time
And he was always in between
His life and a movie scene

And the weight of our words
Is what we don't understand
Or the test in the part of every woman and every man

So with dignity and grace
Boy you'd have to erase
All the things in your mind
That replay and replay and replay and replay and replay
The things that made you cry
That you forgave, you let go by
Or you will push the one that you love out of your life
Out of your life

And there was always something she had to plan
She's always looking down in her left hand
And she was always in between
Her life and her childhood dream
And there was always something he had to mend
You give a rule
You're giving something to bend
And he was always in between
His word and what his word means

And the weight of what's heard
Is what we don't understand
Or the test in the part of every woman and every man

So with loyalty embraced
Well you'd have to sustain
All the things in your mind
That will change and will change
They will change, they will change, they will change
The things that made you lie
You want to forget and let go by
Or you will push the one that you love out of your life
Out of your life

So with dignity and grace
Boy you'd have to erase
All the things in your mind
That replay and replay
They replay, they replay, they replay
The things that made you cry
That you forgave, you let go by
Or you will push the one that you love out of your life
Out of your life, out of your life
Out of your life, out of your life
Hey hey hey

Small part of me

The music stopped
You watch the people walk away
Your eyes reflected light that shone down
From the stained glass windowpane
Now we could talk
But the words would come out wrong
And there is no black or white
But still, we just move on

And you're never gonna be the same
From this moment you'll rise
To a height only gained by a compromise
Share the glimpse of a new beginning
And now you've changed
But just a small part of me believes this
And you will stay
But just a small part of me believes this

And for good luck,
We wear three keys to keep life prosperous
There's a looming shadow
That stands before us
And what was lost
Was the reason to believe
And the innocence and the will to retrieve it

And you're never gonna be the same
From this moment you'll rise
To a height only gained by a compromise
Share the glimpse of a new beginning
And you're never gonna be the same
From this moment you'll rise
To a height only gained by a compromise
Share the glimpse of a new beginning
And now you've changed
But just a small part of me believes this
And you will stay
But just a small part of me believes this
And just a small part of me believes this
And just a small part of me believes this
And just a small part of me believes this

Irish goodbye

Non-stop talk
It’s eleven o’clock
There’s a line coming out the door
I’m not feeling it
But i swore i’d go

Thrift shop
Rock a little light on a cock
All the kids screaming out for more
I’m not getting it
I’d swear i’ve been here before

How can you rap
For all that sunset
The sequin still isn’t done
And i’d like to know
You get me

Third full sip (?)
Off the straight line tip
Just one now, but i want more
Another, promise me
Thrown out the door

Through a bloodshot haze
Watch the day get paid
Find a friend, ask him take me home
And could you stay awhile
Now i can’t be alone

How can you rap
For all that sunset
The sequin still isn’t done
And i’d like to know
You get me

How can you rap
For all that sunset
The sequin still isn’t done yet
I’d like to know
You get me

My own fault

If you listen to the stream
You may get thirsty
If you watch the dying tree
You may feel weak

But don't you feel sorry
Don't you get worried
Please don't at all
Don't you take pity
It's my own fault

If you watch the t.v. Screen
You may feel hollow
If you hear the wedding vows
You may feel drunk

But don't you feel sorry
Don't you get worried
Please don't at all
Don't you take pity
It's my own fault

And there are better days
Then i’m on my way
Just follow the headlight

And don't you feel sorry
Don't you get worried
Please don't at all
Don't you take pity
It's my own fault

And no, don't you feel sorry
Don't you get worried
Please don't at all
Don't you take pity
It's my own fault

The Ballad of Sean Foley

Fell down from New Haven
To an empire cityscape
Someone asked him for directions
He would always know the way
Offer you his raincoat
Let you hide under his hat
If you can't walk from whiskey
He'll just throw you on his back

And then away you'll go
Through the crowd gathered below
To the spinning wheels
Of your mobile home
And he'll watch you sleep
Like a guardian angel

Stays inside the music
Sometimes steps outside the law
Always in the name of justice
Still believes in the lost cause
Distract you with a story
Always tries to make you laugh
He brings people together
Like Gertrude Stein and Mama Cass

And he says, "my friends are yours,
This town's full of open doors
To the sold-out shows
Eighth bungalows
And the lonesome smokes
In this tiny studio"

Always finds a muse
Everywhere he goes
Whether it's the blues
Or some abandoned show tune

Learned how to be selfless
How to love what wasn't there
But never dwell upon it
Just embrace what's everywhere
People busking in the subway
MC's freestyle in the park
Heard a kid from Martha's vineyard
Made him turn around his car

And away he goes
To the local radio
Saying, "what's that sound?
I'd like to know,
And this might sound strange,
But I just can't let it go"

Guess every sinner needs a saint
Guess every sinner needs a saint
Guess every sinner needs a saint
Says everybody is the same

Lost time

I never said that it was mine
I was just holding it
If i was lonely all this time
Well, i didn't know it
And if i tried too hard
I'd probably blow it
The rest is just a guess

If it's all just luck
It was tough enough
If we lost some time
Then we'll make it up, up

I never said that it was time
I was just hoping it
If i was always on your mind
Well, you didn't show it
But when i’d shut my eyes
You'd always know it
The rest could be the best

And if it's all just luck
It was tough enough
If we lost some time
Then we'll make it up, up

And a heart that grieves
Gets lost in everything
And a heart in need
Finds hope in anything

If it's all just luck
It was tough enough
And if we lost some time
Then we'll make it up, up
If we lost some time
Then we'll make it up, up
We lost some time
Now we're making it up, up

Maria: "That is great but... We're gonna have some more tunes and um, and we're NOT gonna stop!"
Mr. Taylor: "Let's stop and listen to that."
Maria: "Ok. Uh, wha... what?"
Mr. Taylor: "Let's just stop for now. We'll do it again later on."
Maria: "Oh. We're stoppin, Momma."
Mr. Taylor: "I think we've gotta hit there."
Maria: "We'll do it later on."
Mr Taylor: "Let's take a listen on that one."
Maria: "Yah."
Mr Taylor: "Maria's a blues singer. I just knew it all along."

Lady Luck

Lady luck

We were the words that washed from the sand
I still prayed we wouldn't give it up
We were the wings of a hummingbird
But I grew tired as I would wait for lady luck

We were the blue in the newborn's eye
I still prayed we could keep it up
We were the view from my childhood room
But I grew wise as I would look for lady luck

And follow yourself
And hope that you know where you’re going
And don't question your steps
That lead you into the morning
And you'll bring a friend along the way
Your new life it's starts today
It doesn't always worked the way you planned it, ok

We were the wear in my favourite shirt
I still prayed we could make it work
We were the lair for the baby cubs
But I grew strong as I prepared for lady luck

And follow yourself
And hope that you know where you’re going
And don't question your steps
That lead you into the morning
And you'll meet a friend along the way
You can't wait for each new day
It doesn't always work the way you planned it

I like it better this way
It's lady luck
It's lady luck

Time Lapse Lifeline

I’m keeping up, keeping up with the time lapse lifeline
And they can run they can run from the font to the last rites
And we can hear we can hear the first beat to the flat line
I’m keeping up, keeping up with the time lapse lifeline
And once it’s done

Oh we dreamed a life
It was just like that, was like that
And just like that, and just like that it’s done
Oh we dreamed a life
It was just like that, was like that
And just like that, and just like that it’s done

Back it up, back it up
Stop, fast-forward, rewind
And watch the sun watch the moon taking turns in the same sky
And you were dead as the leaves now you’re new like the spring-time
Back it up, back it up
Stop, fast-forward, rewind
And once it’s done

Oh we dreamed a life
It was just like that, was like that
And just like that, and just like that it’s done
Oh we dreamed a life
It was just like that, was like that
And just like that, and just like that it’s done

Still we stand with the help of a steady hand
Capture images of boy and man
Till it's done
And seven years combined is just a flicker of neon sign
Little negative of hopes refined
Till they’re done, oh they’re done

Oh we dreamed a life
It was just like, was like that
And just like that, and just like that it’s done
Oh we dreamed a life
It was just like, was like that
And just like that, and just like that it’s done

It's time

Love me
Bad idea
Oh no flashback
Whisper I barely hear
Okay now come back

Hold (let me down) myself up (let me down)
For each let down
It aches (let me down) but it feels good (let me down)
A mistake (let me down) is understood now

It's time, can you feel it
I'm making a change
There's a world I need to know

It's time, can you feel it
I'm making a change
I learned to let it go

I don't know you, but I want to now
Oh no flashback
Careful, I’m barely here
Okay, now come back

Hold (let me down) myself up (let me down)
For each let down
Breaks (let me down) but it feels good (let me down)
Separate (let me down) I knew it would now

It's time, can you feel it
I'm making a change
There's a world I want to know
It's time, can you feel it
I'm making a change
I learned to let you go

My favorite love

It's the chill in the hollow of my bones that making my hands numb
And the sound of the windmill now where it's from
And solitude sounds are making my eyes weep
And tossing and turning I can't make my mind sleep

And getting worked up from people I just meet
And this is the reason I think
It's the ending of careless wants
But you are my favorite love

Can we map the succession, the fever, depression, the bad weeks
It was right in the corridor but left by the river where we'd meet.
And solitude sounds are making my eyes weep
And tossing and turning I can't make my mind sleep

And getting worked up from people I just meet
And this is the reason I think
It's the ending of careless wants
But you are my favorite love

100,000 Times

Oh, they talk, they talk, they meddle more
Droning lights need a change of key
"Are they on, are they off," that's what they'll ask.
It gives pleasure to the displeased

I won't hold the future to your eye
'Cause we're already waiting to die
And we can change our minds one hundred thousand times

Oh, they pry, they peek, they presume it wrong
Dreary scope needs a change of scene
"Does she know, does she care," that's what they'll ask
It gives pleasure to the displeased

I won't hold the future to your eye
Yeah, we're already waiting to die
And we can change our minds one hundred thousand

Tell me all the times you have ever known your reaction
Maybe you prefer all the things that would confound
And maybe you'll search for awhile to decide...

I won't hold the future to your eye
'Cause we're already waiting to die
And we can change our minds one hundred thousand

I won't hold the future to your eye
Yeah we're already waiting to die
And we can change our minds one hundred thousand
One hundred thousand

Green Butterfly

Dream what you can become
A shake that basks in the sun
The kettle cries when it's done
Become it and just keep going

The fight was losing it's fun
And I never knew if I won
It can live and die and become
Learn it and just keep going

A friend that you can lean on
A daughter constant and strong
Admit the things I've done wrong
Say "sorry" and just keep going

The pit inside you gets worse
The talks are over-rehearsed
When everything feels reversed
You switch it and just keep going

Green butterflies, in your sight, in your sight
The easy pace of morning light
You'll be free you'll find
When you give up

Dream that you can exist
A stranger blowing a kiss
And is it you that I miss?
Believe it and just keep going

The fight was losing it's fun
And I never knew if you won
It can live and die and become
We learn it and then just keep going

Green butterflies, in your sight, in your sight
The easy pace of morning light
You'll be free you'll find
When you give up
When you give up

Broad Daylight

Past country lines and interstate signs
We were here to sing, to shadow an endless dream
Left the family, backstage we met
You were writing your set
We talked till the owner swept
Outside the big great door

But don't look at me this way
In the broad light of day
You're not safe from the veil
Of the night; and it must be displaced
That look upon your face
I never thought I'd find

We cross tangled vines
And you whisper signs
We could hear you see
A yellow rose of spring
Your face left a perfect ring
Is it morning or night
The missed call, the missed flight
Cab is waiting, remember the song that played
"You're somebody's baby."

So I can't look at you this way
In the broad light of day
You're not safe from the veil
Of the night; and it must be displaced
That look upon my face
I never thought I'd find

So don't look at me this way
In the broad light of day
You're not safe from the veil
Of the night, and it must be displaced
That look upon your face
I never thought I'd find

A Chance

When he supported my stance
It got confused with romance
I gave another boy a chance
We both know what we did wrong
When I woke up he was gone
I saved his number in my phone

There's really nothing more to say
I can't remember anything

And you continued to call
Forgiving it all
But now I really want to talk
The situation has changed
The situation became
A mirror of the last refrain

There's really nothing more to say
Who remembers anyway

And you continued to call

Orchids

I won't get mad and I won't break in two
'Cause I understand you
Now take this change
And let my clothes soak with rain
As I study orchid blues

And some can't live
Unless they feed on fallen leaves
And so you'll let me down
To come alive
When you comfort me

I've watched you change
I've heard your words rearrange
Played back from the start
And if I did teach you anything at all
I hope it was to love with all your heart
And lie open wide
With imperfect symmetry
And so you'll love like you
And I will love like me

And to be reborn
They have to go to sea
And so, angel, you will have to set me free

Cartoons and Forever Plans

Did you know the first time you were in my sight
And did you know that look that I threw at you
And did you know my love will never die

And did you know I can't do this without laughing
And did you know no matter where it takes us now
And did you know our love will never die

The pretend season that we fill
With cartoons and forever plans
I've seen it in your eyes
I will be satisfied

And did you know electricity favours us
And did you know I'm not reading into anything
And did you know our love will never die

I won't run away, I won't run away, I won't run
I won't run away, I won't run away, I won't run

Our love will never die
I will be satisfied

And did you know my glass is never empty
And did you know I'm not as fragile as I thought
And did you know my love will never die

Overlook

Masterplan

How do you emancipate
Could you harbour the silent change
Could you keep pushing through

How do you emancipate
Will she be there if you walk away
Would you
Would you feel the same?

The fear
This moon sits high
In comparison you cower as
You pray for these thoughts to die
These choices you did make

Can you take them back
Can you live with that

Do you have a masterplan
Can the heart crumble while devotion stands
And what makes the better man

The weary sun lets go
In comparison you tower as
You turn and you head back home

These choices you did make
But can you take them back
And can you live with that

And how do you emancipate
Could you harbour the silent change
Could you keep pushing through

And how do you emancipate
Will she be there if you walk away
Would you
Would you feel the same

Do you have a masterplan
Can the heart crumble while devotion stands
And what makes the better man

And who has a master plan
You deserve a love that will transcend
You do
Again

Matador

He's always got a new kill
He comes back for more
He's a matador

He's always got a new kill
He comes back for more
He's a matador

They worship and adore, he's out for blood
He was the chosen son, he was the chosen one
The pitiful disease has just begun
I was the lucky one, I was the lucky one

Every day's a new day outside the door
'Cause I've surrendered
Every day's a new day outside the door
'Cause I've surrendered

They worship and adore, he's out for blood
He was the chosen son, he was the chosen one
The pitiful disease has just begun
I was the lucky one, I was the lucky one

Watch it disappear in the red sky
Keep it here and watch it die

He's always got a new kill
He comes back for more
He's a matador
Every day's a new day outside the door
'Cause I've surrendered

Every day's a new day outside the door
But I've surrendered
Every day's a new day outside the door
'Cause I've surrendered

Every day's a new day outside the door
But I've surrendered
Every day's a new day outside the door
'Cause I've surrendered

Happenstance

I don't unpack my bags anymore
There's always a suitcase, full
On the bedroom floor
I'm not the marrying kind
Cus i often change my mind
From draped in white
Blankets with dreams of spring time

On this cold night in alabama
On this cold night in alabama

Happenstance, show me where to go
Through ??? vines
And powder snow
There's always one
That you'll miss the most
So I'm all tucked in
Thinking of the west coast

On this cold night in alabama
On this cold night in alabama
On this cold night in alabama
On this cold night in alabama

On this cold night in alabama
On this cold night in alabama
On this cold night in alabama
On this cold night in alabama

Like It Does

You go back and forth, it's no direction
You walk hand in hand, it's not love
You can't blame the mind for dreaming
Like it does

Do you feed the void or your addiction
If you have faith you'll rise above
You can't blame the mind for believing
Like it does, like it does

There's no vow to make you honest
There's no confession that will make you pure
Can't blame the mind for searching for the cure

Don't pat your back for good intentions
It's an excuse for your careless hands
You can't blame the mind for forgetting
Best you can, best you can

You go back and forth, it's no direction
You walk hand in hand, it's not love
You can't blame the mind for the dreaming
That it does, like it does

Bad Idea

You're never counting the days or nights by the minute
When everyday is a holiday
Put on your sunday best and your high heeled boots

Come on by, the doors are always open
You can smoke in any room
Oh, the ever rejoicing to do

But is it a bad idea
Keep your loving light and the door in sight
Is it a bad idea
To do

What if I turn 49
With no husband in mind
Well I guess there's just a glitch in my design

When you're tattered and worn
And rested and reborn
Well everyday is your birthday
Put on your hands two hats (?) and your party suit

Clothes on the floor
And drawers always open
Music plays in every room
Oh, the ever rejoicing to do

But is it a bad idea
Comin to life with the crescent moon
Is it a bad idea
To do
Is it a bad idea
Sleeping all day through the afternoon
Is it a bad idea
To do

What if I turned 59
With no child of mine
Well I guess there's just a glitch in my design

But is it a bad idea
Is it a bad idea
Is it a bad idea
Oh, what's a girl to do

Idle Mind

Tell me what I'm waiting for
Just signal if I'm getting warm
Is there really something more that I am after

Tell me what I'm searching for
Don't lead me to another door
That opens to a perfect world
But not for me, not for me

On my idle mind
My idle mind
My idle mind
Come closer to you

Tell me was it in my head
Did I sabotage with things I said
For a thin interpretation of freedom

Tell me what I'm waiting for
Just signal if I'm getting warm
Is there really something more that I am after

On my idle mind
My idle mind
My idle mind
Come closer to you

In the constellations, in the night's shadows
Is there a sightless hand that points you where to go
And you stand faithfully, and I'll believe it's true

On my idle mind
My idle mind
My idle mind
Come closer to you

In A Bad Way

Look back to another day
In the throws of affection
And it had just begun

Look back to another day
We didn't know but it was fun
And we weren't twenty-one

And just like predicted it ended finally
You always had me where you wanted me

Look back to another day
In the throws of affection
And it had just begun

Look back to another day
We didn't know but it was fun
And we weren't twenty-one

And just like predicted it ended finally
You always had me where you wanted me

And I knew I'd pay
But I wanted it in a bad way
I know you were venomous
But I wanted this
In my veins

Look back to another day
We didn't know but it was fun
And we weren't twenty-one
And we weren't twenty-one
And we weren't twenty-one
And we weren't twenty-one

This Could Take A Lifetime

I've been waiting at the Greyhound station
I've been trying to find someone like you
But I never do

I've been trying to change my patterns
So I could love someone like you
But I never do

And this could take a lifetime
To believe in something true
But I hope that's not what I do

You've been walking around these same sad circles
Trying to find someone to stand by you
Baby I have too

You've been trying to believe in someone
After all the things she did to you
You know I've been there too

And this could take a lifetime
To believe in something true
But I hope that's not what you do

And this could take a lifetime
To believe in someone as true
But I hope that's not what I do

Along For The Ride

In the red sky a bed of roses
Caution in your eyes as it exposes
Overcome with fear from what's behind
Hold out your hand, I'll hold out mine

Angel in the sky throws lights like diamonds
Caution in your eyes as they are blinding
Overcome with tears from what's to come
'Cause everybody loves to love

Green butterfly where you been hiding
Caution in your wings as spring is rising
Overcome by the grace of your stride
We’re all along for the ride

Something About Knowing

Folk Song Melody

There is grace in how you choose
Which memories to lose
Like the curl of your lips
And your finger tips

There's so much that's made
This old wood frame hang new

But I got lucky alright
It was never gonna be my life

You can't be free until you're ready
I got lucky you see
It was never going to be me
Now I see it unfold like a folk song melody
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
There is skill in how you fight
To keep living towards the light
You can never change someone
But you can change your reaction

So this day's defeated
And we retreat to night

But I got lucky alright
It was never gonna be my life
You can't be free until you're ready

I got lucky you see
It was never going to be me
Now I see it unfold like a folk song melody

Up All Night

Remember that day we got the news
I was scared as hell, and so were you
But I took your hand, and we jumped in

I took you on tour but you were yet to be born
We crossed the ocean, from shore to shore
And our love was sworn then
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
And this need to protect you
And so I pray the world is good to you

And I've been up all night
But these are the best days of my life
And it's the time of the year for a change
And it's covered in love

You've taught me so much in just a few days
I'm a better woman in so many ways
And I swear I'll give it back to you

My mind's a mess and my back's aching
I see you smile, I'd do it over again
And this is the beginning

And this need to protect you
And so I pray the world is good to you

And I've been up all night
But these are the best days of my life
And it's the time of the year for a change
And it's covered in love

And this need to protect you
And so I pray the world is good to you

And I've been up all night
But these are the best days of my life
And it's the time of the year for a change
And it's covered in love

And I've been up all night
But these are the best days of my life
And it's the time of the year for a change
And it's covered in love

Tunnel Vision

Strong will
I know it well
Tunnel vision
Can take you through hell

We got a little off track
We got back
In the belly of the flame
Lie the pieces I lack

And you were running from the outside
Running toward the finish line
I was betting on the other side
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
And you were giving it all you've got
Giving up your whole life
I was betting on the other side
Betting on the other side

Friend, I know you good
But tell your secrets, no I never would
There was a little lost pact
Still intact
It's just a glimmer in your sight
As we're fading to black

And you were running from the outside
Running toward the finish line
I was betting on the other side

And you were giving it all you've got
Giving up your whole life
I was betting on the other side
Betting on the other side

Dance, arms open wide
With the moon's spotlight in your eye
And we're moving, around and around and around...

And you were running from the outside
Running toward the finish line
I was betting on the other side

And you were giving it all you've got
Giving up your whole life
I was betting on the other side
Betting on the other side

Sum Of Our Lives

Soft spoken spring
Whispers graciously
Thank you for a new beginning

A second chance on what we started
Break from the broken hearted
We're more than the sum of our lives

Cower at the face of regret
I wanna be the ones who make it
We're more than the sum of our lives
Of our lives

I could let it be
I could set us free
But it's never that easy
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
Our names carved in the pavement
All the marks we haven't made yet
They're more than the sum of our lives

All that we anticipated
What we already created
It's more than the sum of our lives
Of our lives

Constance of night
Tireless sea
Comes steady thankfully

A second chance on what we started
Break from the broken hearted
We're more than the sum of our lives

Cower at the face of regret
I wanna be the ones who make it
We're more than the sum of our lives
Of our lives

You’ve Got A Way With The Light

I love you today like the first night of May
We were waiting for the sun
The blossoms that fell were the first ones to tell
April’s come undone

Baby I’ll keep all the paintings you make
As the winter keeps the spring
You got a way with the light
I got the evening

The garden you laid on the warm saturdays
As the summer passed us by
It holds me in faith as the sky goes to grey
If only for a while
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
Baby I know that the fire’s getting low
And soon will fall to ash
But you got a shine in your eyes
That I won’t ever have

Never look down at the holes in the ground
Keep your eyes ahead
Burn like a ray through tomorrow
Today is already in the past

And when the day comes that tomorrow is done
And you are left behind
I’ll have the light in your eyes
And you’ll have all of mine

Something About Knowing

I got you, I got me
I heard the sweetest voice call me mommy
Got my old five string
I've got everything

And there's something about knowing
Where the love will go
There's something about knowing
Where the north wind blows

I've got a longleaf pine tree
Got a dog named Buddy
My revolver LP
I got everything

There's something about knowing
Where the love comes from
There's something about knowing
When the pink moon comes
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
Be like my brother
Keep us laughing through the night
Words from my mother
Say put in what you want from this life

I've got my list
Of things that I will forever miss
In these melodies
I got my loving memories

And there's something about knowing
Where the luck comes from
There's something about knowing
Where it was all along

Shine like my sister
Another breaking light
Drift like my father
On the oceans' reckless tide for a while

Time after we go
It’s an open ended night
Take what we have here
Tend it and hold it tight

I got you, I got me
I heard the sweetest voice call me mommy
I got everything
I got everything

This Is It

Button up your suit
Straighten your tie
Hide those tattoos
How did this life become mine

You call me on the phone
I can't breathe with these doubts
Come with me if you want
'Cause I'm getting out
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
We were living on a straight line
Now we're out of control
We were living on a straight line
Feeling so old

How do we exist
Lost in this spin
We were waiting for the right time
Now this is it

Now we're living on a dime
So turn on your charm
Turn off the sun
Toss out the alarm

Call your friend back home
It was a matter of time
And maybe it was wrong
But I feel so alive

We were living on a straight line
Now we're out of control
We were living on a straight line
We were feeling so old

If we run out of gas
This ain't meant to last
Waiting for the right time
It's now at last

And we’re not getting older
We’re not getting older
Not getting older tonight

No, we’re not getting older
We’re not getting older
Not getting older tonight

No, we’re not getting older
We’re not getting older
Not getting older tonight
We’re not getting older tonight

And we were living on a straight line
Now we're out of control
We were living on a straight line
We were feeling so old

How do we exist
Lost in this spin
We were waiting for the right time
Now this is it

We are taking in the new love
Watch the sky turn to gold
With every new direction

There's a story untold
There's a bed by the water
Maybe this could be home
We'll live together

And we'll never be alone, alone, alone
And our hands intertwining
Like the braids in my hair
We were waiting for the right time
Now it's here

Broken Objects

Seen a lot of broken objects
In a lot of broken towns
These are things I try to hold
For when I’m going down

Pay attention to the wind
Be patient with the rain
Be grateful for the sunshine beating
Down upon your face

And hey, everything will come around
The lighthouse marks the naked ground
And when you’re turning home
I wish you speed and breath to fill your empty sails
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
When the night is long
The highway slowing down
When the moon is lost and dark
Behind her veil of clouds

Keep searching for the morning
Hold tight to that center line
And never let that ghost horizon
Lull you into dying

Hey, everything will come around
The lighthouse marks the naked ground
And when you’re turning home
I wish you speed and breath to fill your empty sails

Saturday In June

Let's go back where the foothills overlook the emerald sea
Where the city lights will sparkle as far as your eyes see
Let's go back
Let's go back to the sun

Let's go back where your wildest thoughts are sitting at arms reach
Where every day is a new beginning
Let's go back
Let's go back to the sun

We've got just one life
So let's leave tonight

Let's go back where the open sign is turned off til noon
Where any day is a Saturday in June
So let's go back
Let's go back to the sun

The new year’s begun
So let’s go back to the sun
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
We've got just one life
So let's leave tonight

Mark it off the list you make
To do before you die
I want to show you things to open up your eyes

Let's go back where temptation is the night's forewarning
Where you wake dusted off by the early morning breeze
And let's go back
Let's go back to the sun

The new year’s begun
So let’s go back to the sun
The new year’s begun
So let’s go back to the sun

A Lullaby For You

All the stars, the moon, the sky
Flowered fields and butterflies
Well it's not enough for you
Love of mine

All the sunsets heading west
All the cities dressed their best
Well it's not enough for you
Love of mine

And once
I had tried
To feel something
Oh I tried
And then you opened my eyes
And I feel everything

Of all the breath, the space, and time
Dream filled days and nights combined
Well it's not enough for you
Love of mine
Copy paste is a sin, always on the run is better
Fairy tales, sweet surprise
Morning songs and lullabies
Well they're not enough for you
Love of mine

And once
I had tried
To feel something
Oh I tried
Then you opened my eyes
And I feel everything
You are everything

In the Next Life

Home

We traveled into the twilight
Watched the canyons turn to peaks
Outside your window
This world is always changing

And we crossed the Mississippi
With the devil's walking stick
I'm back where I started
As a witness
copy paste robots kill the internet
And the day is waning
With the music in our brains
It's in our laughter
Splashing puddles in the rain

And we're pulling from Boxes
Jars filled with ocean sand
In pictures torn and faded
This is where it began

But this thirst for the unknown
Has always carried me away
With a song I'll be writing
Until my dying day
But what I need
Is patterns that we saw

It's home, home

Free Song

I'm free to do what I want
So free to give it all
I'm free to say what I want
So free to give it all
copy paste robots kill the internet
There's no wrong way to show the love you lack
Even if nobody loves you back

There's no right way to hide the love you lack
What's the point of doing that

I'm free to do what I want
So free to give it all
I'm free to say what I want
So free to give it all

If Only

If only you could know
Silhouettes on your shadows
Will it all be the same
I go back where we started
Where we gave it all too soon
But you know it comes back to you

So take me down
'Cause I see you when I close my eyes
Turn a corner, take me by surprise
And what doesn't work on this first try
Maybe better in the next life
copy paste robots kill the internet
And we'll laugh until the sun will rise
Try to talk but only get tongue-tied
So I live until the living's done
Got a feeling there's another one

If all I ever do
Is covered this world for you
And if all I've ever done
Hang on for the long run
And all you'll never see
Everyone breaking

So take me down
'Cause I see you when I close my eyes
Turn a corner, take me by surprise
And what doesn't work on this first try
Maybe better in the next life

And we'll laugh until the sun will rise
Try to talk but only get tongue-tied
So I live until the living's done
Got a feeling there's another one

And if only you could know
Silhouettes on your shadows

So take me down
'Cause I see you when I close my eyes
Turn a corner, take me by surprise
And what doesn't work on this first try
Maybe better in the next life

And we'll laugh until the sun will rise
Try to talk but only get tongue-tied
So I live until the living's done
Got a feeling there's another one

There's Only Now

We fell into the past
Got caught up in the looking glass

I don't care, I'm not scared
Don't underestimate the waves crash
I'll be the sunrise in your eyes
We can make a glass
copy paste robots kill the internet
And when bad noons rise and we will sight
We'll be good by the morning
On the blankest night we got to beat the light
It will eat us alive

Like a silver sun, on a endless sea
Got to keep on shining
Someway, somehow there's only now to get free

Unless we beat the friend
'Cause my love for you won't end
Can't keep in time, we run
With the beating of a bleeding heart
But every breath you got left
Everyday is a bad start

And when bad noons rise and we will sight
We'll be good by the morning
On the blankest night we got to beat the light
Till it eats us alive

And when it's time for me to die
Will my life keep shining
In your eyes you'll see the light of mine

And when bad noons rise and we will sight
We'll be good by the morning
On the blankest night we got to beat the light
It will eat us alive

Like a silver sun, on a endless sea
Got to keep on shining
Someway, somehow there's only now to get free

There's only now to get free
There's only now

While the Rest of Me Is Waking Up

I remember the way that you played me
You were bright as the night that was calling
Then I would cry like a baby
There was nothing that you wouldn't offer

But time, time, time
Has written these lines, lines, lines
Around my eyes, eyes, eyes
That once were in bloom

And my life, life, life
Has multiplied, multiplied
It’s now in the breath
Of two beautiful lives

These shadows sway evil
As they fade into setting sun
I'm sure to leave the horizon
While the rest of me is waking up
copy paste robots kill the internet
I remember the songs that you played me
The words that would keep me up guessing
Then it was best with your head on my chest
In the mornings that granted me blessings

But time, time, time
Will soften my smile
Has made me fragile
Where once was a storm

And these days, days, days
Are falling away
The songs that you sang
I don't know anymore

These shadows sway evil
As they fade into setting sun
I'm sure to leave the horizon
While the rest of me is waking up

These shadows sway evil
As they fade into setting sun
I'm sure to leave the horizon
While the rest of me is waking up

A Good Life

Open the conversation
Hearing what they say
Baby I'm ashamed
And oh, I can't explain
Why I feel this way

Ashamed of my toleration
Love will turn away
In my life I wanna teach you what's right
So you won't be the same

And I get scared for the world you were born into
Where the good deeds get lost in time
And I hope and I pray 'cause I promised you
The good life
copy paste robots kill the internet
Take all your resolutions
And hold them near
As we began
Bringing in another new year

And turn off the television
Become who you are
All I can do, is promise you
A better start

And I get scared for the world you were born into
Where the good deeds get lost in time
And I hope and I pray 'cause I promised you
The good life

And I get scared for the world you were born into
While you stand wide eyed in the doorway
Are you fooled to believe I promised you
The good life

And I get scared for the world you were born into
Where the good deeds get lost in time
And I hope and I pray 'cause I promised you
The good life

And I get scared for the world you were born into
While you stand wide eyed in the doorway
Are you fooled to believe I promised you
The good life

It Will Find Me

Pictures by the stairs on the wall
Holding flowers in the grass city hall
In the clouds but it will find me somehow

Leave me by the colder days
There's desire, but in a different way
Close my eyes, but it will touch me anyway

And you can sing along, money's gone
Live your life, getting by
And you were mean in love, made and taught
I can see you've had enough
I have to

I was hanging up my guitar
So tired of all the same city bars
It's in the air, but it will find me somewhere
copy paste robots kill the internet
And you can sing along, money's gone
Live your life, getting by
And you were mean in love, made and taught
I can see you've had enough
I have to

And now, we fell into
First there was one reason to be
Now there are two

And you can sing along, money's gone
Live your life, getting by
And you were mean in love, made and taught
I can see you've had enough
I have to

Just Once

Unconscious bleeding
A countless reeling
Talk comes easy with confidence
Can taste the season
Of easy loving
When there's no reason to celebrate
We caught it spinning
The evil's winning
Walking strong and seize the day
Our thoughts are blurring
The drinks we sharing
I'll never drown in the grab

'Cause it was just one night
It was on the first sight
And I can't get it out of my mind

This car has CD
It makes me greedy
Forgettings easy with eloquence
The talk is fluent
The truth is ruined
And jukebox sings my sentiment
The car is moving
The night is proving
A tricky way to medicate
It caught me scheming
I was believing
I'd never drown in the grab

'Cause it was just one night
It was on the first sight
And I can't get it out of my mind

'Cause it was just one night
In the red light
And I can't get it out of my mind

And take advise
See it back in the night
Or just right now

'Cause it was just one night
It was on the first sight
And I can't get it out of my mind

'Cause it was just one night
In the red light
And I can't get it out of my mind

Flower Moon

Once upon a past life
You were everything
My world, my will and my when
But the last passed
With the hourglass
With all that couldn't last
And staying would come to an end

I looked down as you soon be around
You couldn't see the tears drops by
We danced just like we used to do
Under the flower moon

Another day in my life
Was it black or white
But I needed to
Love and be loved
But I chose this different fight
Chasing each grim in the night
As you talked in your ivory bed

So tonight let us dance with the light
And your song ???
And we'll sing it to like we used to do
Under the flower moon

Pretty Scars

One, two
One, two, three, four
One, two
One, two, three, four

I was born on a Friday, back in 1976
To a singer and a teacher
Who at the time where a perfect fit
They gave me what I needed
To go out on the road
And their song, still rings like an echo

I was born on a Saturday, back in 1992
I barely even kissed a guy
Until the summer that I met you
And you played me Leonard Cohen
On a southside bedroom floor
It was then, I knew what the dark was for
copy paste robots kill the internet
And I stay here forever
Like the strum on your first guitar
Time gave me steady wings
Gave me love
Give me all these pretty scars

I was born on a Wednesday, back in 1999
Your heart stopped beating
Right before you were alive
A part of me last with you
In your own-being embrace
I was changed ever since that day

And I stay here forever
Like the greem on a silver star
Time, like an endless swing
'Cause true love
Leave me all these pretty scars

They were born, on the first of May
Once and twice again
The tears were streaming
My head in my husband's hands
I thought I knew of love
But kind of knocked you off of your feet
But man, I didn't know anything

For Worse, For Better

And though we've never been here before
It's like we've always dreamed it
I told you there'd be something more
I promised you would see it
Did you
Did you

Syncopated breath in my ear
We're scared of leaving
I'm steady like the weary sea
I thought you would believe it
It's true
It's true

The sun spoken truth like a photobooth, fade a picture
We fell in two, it was always knew for worse, for better
And let this life catch your eye, we did it together
But if it's just a dream, then let me sleep

And though we've never been here before
It's like I always seen it
I told you there was something more
I was hoping I will be it, I will be it

The sun spoken truth like a photobooth, fade a picture
And we fell in two, it was always knew for worse, for better
And let this life catch your eye, we did it together
But if it's just a dream, then let me sleep

Why'd you got a hold on to
There's something got a hold of you

The sun spoken truth like a photobooth, fade a picture
We fell in two, it was always knew for worse, for better
And let this life catch your eye, we did it together
And if it's just a dream, then let me sleep

Spinning Wheel

Try to make it look easy
The day to day breaks you down
And if you ever think of me
I still want to make you proud

When you're feeling like there's something more
Like your past was lurking at your front door
And it is creeping from the outside in

I can't imagine
That this could end
I look around, I look around
And take it in
On a spinnig wheel
(Think I, think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it
Is this even real
(Think I, think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it

You're flying but the weight of your wings
Is gonna drag you down
And if you ever want to land it
I'm waiting for you on the ground

If you're feeling like there's something more
Like the pages just don't turn anymore
When you're screaming from the inside out

I can't imagine
That this could end
I look around, I look around
And take it in
On a spinnig wheel
(Think I, think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it
Is this even real
(Think I, think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it

And I found my feet on the ground
And that voice inside was loud
Screaming loud
Hear me out

I can't imagine
That this could end
I look around, I look around
And take it in

I think I'm gonna make it
(Think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it
I think I'm gonna make it
(Think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it

On a spinnig wheel
I think I'm gonna make it
(Think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it
Is this even real
I think I'm gonna make it
(Think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it

On a spinnig wheel
I think I'm gonna make it
(Think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it
Is this even real
I think I'm gonna make it
(Think I, think I)
I think I'm gonna make it

Waiting In Line

(feat. Adam Duritz)

Little bird lands on your shoulder
I would surely make you mine
And we would last for all time

But if fire came down like water
Could anyone survive
Could we last til dawn

I used to walk at night alone around the reservoir
Thought I was waiting there for you
But

I'm getting older but I've got time
Made my decisions, I've changed my mind
Now there's this feeling I'm waiting in line
All this talk about leaving it all behind

Your little world is filled with wonder
It blossoms in your mind
And darlin' you will find

In the corners of the garden
The secret lonely vines
They will grow for all time

I used to walk at night alone around the reservoir
Thought I was waiting there for you
But

I'm getting older but I've got time
Made my decisions, I've changed my mind
Now there's this feeling, I'm waiting in line
I've made my mistakes, I've served my time
I've walked in circles looking for signs
Now there's this feeling I'm waiting in line
All this talk about leaving it all behind

I'm getting older but I've got time
Made my decisions, I've changed my mind
Now there's this feeling, I'm waiting in line
I've made my mistakes, I've served my time
I've walked in circles looking for signs
Now there's this feeling I'm waiting in line
All this talk about leaving it all behind

Stay With You

(feat. Joshua Radin)

We are afraid to die, so we're not living
We are afraid to lose, so we're not winning
And there's this place I go, I let the river wash over me

I don't want to go back through guessing everything I do
I just want to be right with the moment
I don't want fall back down; always reaching for higher ground
I just want to stay right here with you

We're afraid to hurt, so we're not feeling
When we're at our worst, we're not dreaming
There's this place I go, I let the music brush through me

I don't want to go back through guessing everything I do
I just want to be right with the moment
I don't want fall back down; always reaching for higher ground
I just want to stay right here with you

The night, rolls around
I just want to feel at home again
Get lost in the sound...

I don't want to go back through guessing everything I do
I just want to easing through the morning
I don't want go back down; always reaching for higher ground
I just want to stay right here with you

I just want to stay right here with you...

Something For Nothing

It says a lot when you are in the clear
And when nobody has to mention your name when you're not here
But what we've got, are people filled with fear
And no wonder nothing gets done around here

There's nothing in my hand, I don't think you understand
I don't really wanna get something for nothing, I know...
There's nothing in my hand, I hate to keep changing plans, but
Everybody's trying to get something for nothing, I know...

What do you think, is it appropriate
To go leaning on the same old wall with the same old stare
But what I think, it's been so very clear
I hate to have to mention I think I would disappear

There's nothing in my hand, I don't think you understand
I don't really wanna get something for nothing, I know...
You're just the same, and...
There's nothing in my hand, I hate to keep changing plans, but
Everybody's trying to get something for nothing, I know...

I don't really wanna get something for nothing, I know...
You're just the same, and...
Everybody's trying to get something for nothing, I know...

Beautiful Life

Walking down Lazy Street, in this five star town
While someone's searching through the ashes
I listen to the same five songs as the days signs off
Gives me this visceral reaction

Have you ever just felt like crying
Even though everything is fine
Just break down and start sobbing
Though we know it's such a beautiful life

Divided like a Gemini, the camera's light
And these colors need adjustment
I guess it's not the shade of blue is defining you
But these choices keeps us looking

Have you ever just felt like crying
Even though everything is fine
Just break down and start sobbing
Though we know it's such a beautiful life

Ooh, how we fantasize
I kept the four leaf clover
And I swear that I'm on your side
And ooh, I'm taking all I've saved up
I'm putting all on this number
I'm betting against the odds

Just break down and start sobbing
Though we know it's such a beautiful life
Just break down and start sobbing
Just break down and start sobbing
Just break down and start sobbing
Just break down and start sobbing
Just break down and start sobbing...

We Can Work It Out, But I Should Have Known Better

How do we end this fight
When you side of right
Try to keep my cool
When I'm burning high

Know I made it hard, on the rooftop bar
Another double dream, another movie star
Tried to cut me loose, but the grip was tight
When you met me there after midnight

And we can work it out
We can work it out
We can work it out
But I should have known better

Every time I try to make space in my life, something arise
Try to come in from the shadows into the light
???

Can remember now when the midnight town
Close me out these things that I've kept around
I was never strong enough, it was never black or white
He was a shooting star, I was a satellite

We can work it out
But I should have known better
We can work it out
We can work it out
We can work it out
But I should have known better
We can work it out

New Love

Living it up in your careless years
All what change, a new appear
Parted ways the sky's near
Makes you wonder who is steering

Never gonna let you down, baby
Never gonna let you down
Every time you turn around, baby
Never gonna let you down

Beneath the ocean, behind the sun
It's where this new love has begun
It's never perfect, there's the in-between
But I wouldn't change a thing

Never gonna let you down, baby
Never gonna let you down
Every time you're reaching out, baby
Never gonna let you down

Winter Solstice

If you're happy then I'm alright
If you're scared, then I'll shine the light
My fear's tucked in this white balloon, I let it go for you

If you need me, I'm here all day, all night
If you did wrong, let's make it right
My storm's locked in this white balloon, I let it go for you
(I let it go for you)

Winter solstice
(I let it go for you)
Guessing new chance

If you're happy, then I'm alright
I'll sing to you every night
As the sun sets in the desert sky, I'm humble by the light
I'm humble by the light
I'm humble by the light

Breathe

( With Andy LeMaster )

Breathe to release
And dispel what you dream
Just be glad we can kiss
And say goodbye
And say I miss you

It's just I finally found
A place where I can breathe
It's just I finally found
A place where I can sleep

Breathe to release
And dispel what you dream
Just be glad we can kiss
And say goodbye
And say I miss you

It's just I finally found
A place where I can breathe
It's just I finally found
A place where I can sleep

It's just I finally found
A place where I can breathe
I finally found
A place where I can sleep

Hand in hand we fade away
Why, I miss you
Why, I miss you
Why, I miss you
Why, I miss you

Darby Jean

I believe in hope, in miracles, in dreaming
And baby, you deserved to feel love
To feel the sun kiss your tiny fingers
My love

And your light breaks with the sunrise
We wake and follow you, our guide
And it's all right when we fall apart again
You catch us every time
You're in our footsteps
You're in our laughter
You're in our cries
Oh love

I believe in fate
In the uncertainty of nature
And baby, you deserved to feel love
To catch the breeze like a smile from a stranger
My love

And your light breaks with the sunrise
We wake and follow you, our guide
And it's all right when we fall apart again
You catch us every time
You're in our echoes
You're in our movements
You're on our minds
Oh love

The sycamores are changing
Dylan's back in school
Never does a day go by we don't feel you

In every thing we do

And your light breaks with the sunrise
We wake and follow you, our guide
And it's all right when we fall apart again
You catch us every time
You're in our footsteps
You're in our laughter
You're in our cries
Oh love

Light Of The World

(Maria Taylor & Louis Schefano)

Build up yourself
And lift someone else
For better
Be of good cheer
Get through the year
Together

Build up yourself
Lift someone else
For better
Be of good cheer
Get through the year
Together

Love and hope
Love and hope
The light of the world
Of the world tonight
The light shine on the world
On the world tonight

Spirit sends a heavy winter
Take me with you
Where I'm in spring
When I see you starting over
In the season where I can believe

Love and hope
Love and hope
The light of the world
Of the world tonight
The light shine on the world
On the world tonight
The light of the world
Of the world tonight
The light shine on the world
On the world tonight

Build up yourself
Lift someone else
For better
Be of good cheer
Get through the year
Together

Build up yourself
Lift someone else
For better
Be of good cheer
Get through the year
Together

Make It Look Simple

One, two
One, two, three, four

Staying up both nights, stressed about money
Get up and make 'em laugh, try to be funny
Instead, conversations seem to last a lifetime
Always hiding in the back of my mind
Let me be liked

Make a mess for fun and see the ripples
Climb up to the top, make it look simple
But my knees are shaking, white knuckles
Should it feel so good to not run in circles
Let me be liked

Let me be loved, let me be ready
Let me be liked
Let me get lost outside my body
With you tonight
And if I can't make it better
Is it a waste of time

? once in a while
Turn around, somebody makes me
Turn around, someone that makes me
Turn around

Let me be loved, let me be ready
Let me be liked
Let me get lost outside my body
With you tonight
And if I can't make it better
Is it a waste of time
Let me be loved, let me be ready
Let me be liked

Tell it Like it is

( Aaron Neville Cover / Live 20/07/05 at the Knitting Factory in NYC )

Now if you want something to play with, go out and find yourself a toy,
Cause little boy my time is too expensive and I'm not a little boy
So if you are serious, don't play with my heart, it makes me furious
But if you want me to love you, you know I will, you know I will
Tell it like it is

Don't be ashamed, let your conscience be your guide
I know deep down inside of me I believe you love me
So forget your foolish pride, life is too short for sorrow
You may be here today and gone tomorrow
You might aswell get what you want
So go on and please
Tell it like it is

I'm nothing to play with, go and find yourself a toy
Tell it like it is
Tell it like it is

Tell me

( Savannah Drive EP )

Waiting for you, waste the night away
Sing for your return another day
Pace myself or waste away
Everyone else holding, I can wait

Tell me what you got, tell me what you got
Maybe you were handed a fate
Tell me what you got, tell me what you got
Maybe you were scared to explain

Taking off my clothes I feel a change,
Out of body staring in your face
I have a dream I can't erase
I float above the room and into space

Tell me why you're not, tell me why you're not
Maybe you were locked into place
Tell me why you're not, tell me why you're not
Come down and I'll do the same

A burning rush of colour to my face

Tell me what you want, tell me what you want
I'll give the most you can take
Tell me why you're not, tell me why you're not
Maybe you were scared to explain
Tell me what you want, tell me what you want
Over and over again
Tell me why you're not, tell me why you're not
Come down and I'll do the same

The First time I ever saw your face

( Roberta Flack Cover / Comes with a Smile, Volume 15: Gloved Hands in a Squeeze )

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies, my love,
To the dark and the empty skies.

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
And felt your heart beat close to mine
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird

That was there at my command, my love
That was there at my command

The first time ever I lay with you
I felt the earth move in my hand
I thought our joy would fill the earth
And last 'till the end of time, my love
And last 'till the end of time

Time After Time

(Cyndi Lauper cover / Maria Taylor, Kristofer Âström and Wolke / Live)

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick
And think of you
Turning in circles
Confusion is nothing new
Flashback to warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories
Time after

Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me
I can't hear what you've said
Then you say go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

If you're lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness
Has turned to gray
Watching through windows
I'm wondering If you're OK
And you say go slow
I fall behind
The drums beats out of time

If you're lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
