The tale of Mariee Sioux began as delicately and spiritually as her captivating song, as a small ember introduced to the universe that soon grew into a flame of hope and illumination. Her dazzling debut album, Faces in the Rocks, weaves together the poetic interpretations of the universe's deep truths and interconnectedness that have intrigued her since childhood. Each spin invites listeners to be the cast in Mariee's entrancing tale with a journey ahead that is only beginning. The stage was set in her hometown of Nevada City, CA, a historically creative community in which artists have flourished over the ages, where Mariee intertwined the vivid verse she had been writing as a child with the life lessons she has learned as an adult for this powerful record. Her roots had been planted deep in music through the love of her mandolin-playing father, but it was not until Mariee ventured a life-changing trip to Patagonia at the age of 17 that she began to play an instrument herself. She soon perfected the spry, delicate finger picking guitar technique featured on Faces in the Rocks, a faultless accompaniment to her strong yet sweetly cooing vocals, and toured internationally with her adoring compatriots Brightblack Morning Light. Featuring Grammy-nominee Gentle Thunder's enchanting sound on a redwood-carved Native American flute as well as her own father Gary Sobonya on mandolin, Mariee recorded Faces in May 2007 with a troupe of Nevada City's talented musicians. Recorded with the intent of aligning the magnificence of the human voice with the universe's creative energy, each song is a stirring exploration of life. Her tales range from the profundity of friendship on the single 'Friendboats'to the yearning of self-understanding on 'Bundles,'each laced with fabled images and poignant verse. 'Two Tongues at One Time,'recently released on a rare 7'vinyl, is a sonnet-filled homage to the ancestors who traversed the wild lands of America hundreds of years ago, reminding listeners of our vital ties to our past. Continuing the folk tradition of songwriting greats such as Joni Mitchell, Kate Wolf, and Nick Drake, Faces glorifies an appreciation of the working spirit and the oneness of nature that remains timeless.

Icarus eye Lemon filled bowls in your home Lemon filled bowls in your home Those lemon filled bowls in your home And mama said Oh my mama said Mama said Oh my mama she said That I'm a pyramid Icarus eye in style The icarus eye in style It tattooed your breath a while But pears in bowls And sowing seeds But pears in bowls And sowing seeds Mean I'm a pyramid Mean I'm a pyramid Oh soaking almonds in milky mouths Kiss yours into mine don't let your teeth fall out And roll all around licking your lips Open up let the mouths take drift Head in the dirt and I'm home Head in the dirt and I'm home My head in the dirt and I'm home And you were the missing elements For a few glow in the dark moments Oh you were my missing elements For a few glow in the dark moments Moment Oh you were my missing elements Oh you were my missing elements Lemon filled bowls in your home Lemon filled bowls in your home Those lemon filled bowls in your home And mama said Oh my mama said Mama said Oh my mama she said I'm a pyramid Axemen We're always outrunning the flood And it leaves us knee deep in the mud we once rubbbed On our faces while waltzing around with dirt masks Now the forest asks us if we've noticed That we've out worn our welcome. So run, run, run from the Axemen They've come come come for your new skin Run, run, run from the axe men They've come come come for your new skin We're always chewing it in the backs of our mouths To keep our backs watched and clean of we'd let out howls Of love so bold and black and mean it would lock down your knees and block the seeds of light they need. So run, run, run from the Axemen They've come come come for your new skin Run, run, run from the axe men They've come come come for your new skin And we're always out running that flood And I want to let out howls of love to bold and rough and tough And black and mean that it would lock down your knees And block the seeds of light they need. So run, run, run from the Axemen They've come come come for your new skin Run, run, run from the axe men They've come come come for your new skin
Patagonia So, so, so, so sweetly You said out loud We're gonna break, we're gonna break With the break o' day And so sweetly You stared down at me Til I had to break, til I had to break Those eyes away So they would not pull at me As I tried to make, as I tried to make An early escape And now the mouths of the mountains Open with mine I try to eat the sky Of Patagonia And here the hearts, they could break through stones But here the cold, it cuts to bones And here the hearts, they could break through stones But here the cold, oh it cuts to bones It can cut to bones So, so, so, so neatly You had told me We'll meet again, we'll meet again When the limbs are bare And so neatly I held on tightly A flashing feathered fingers through my hair And now the secret's back home, they built like boulders That they roll down the hills Of Patagonia And here the hearts, they could break through stones But here the cold, it cuts to bones And here the hearts, they could break through stones But here the cold, oh it cuts to bones It can cut to bones And your, your, your hammers to my heart were pounding Gonna have to take those hands Away from your ears Wild breaths were blown With bolts of lightning Oh let it strike to melt Away this year And so sweetly we'll take off galloping And then rise to the sky of Patagonia And then rise to the sky of Patagonia And then rise to the sky Of Patagonia

Silent Be the Way Silent be the way that I will try and fix this Cause you and all your ways are making darkened tricks That take over your days untill they've taken you away It's impossible to say Anything at all, like I used to like I used to Silver and Gold we would laugh in your bathroom Silver and Gold we would laugh in your bathroom And elephants could not stampede To make you understand The trumpets need to ring Through your ears again While sirens try to bring you To their watering mouths Come back to us like you used to like you used to Silver and Gold we would laugh in your bathroom Silent be the way that I will try and fix this Cause you and all your ways are making darkened tricks That take over your days untill they've taken you away It's impossible to say Anything at all, like I used to like I used to Come back to us like you used to Silver and Gold we would laugh in your bathroom Silver and Gold we would laugh in your bathroom Can't we blow the horns once more to echo accross this land
Gray Whale Winter Somehow, we'll have to find The bones that we left in each other's mouths 'Cause you still have the ones that allow me to stand upright And now the night, it ties me tight to the bare trees And now the night, it holds me tight to my brown knees This will be a gray whale winter Pulling everyone under Golden breaths going down deeper We will need to have fireflies in our mouths And swallow them down, down, down, down, down And swallow them down, down, down, down, down So when we leave the sky behind We will find ourselves Blowing under waves black as crows' wings Glowing under waves black as crows' wings So when we leave the sky behind We will find ourselves Blowing under waves black as crows' wings Glowing under waves black as crows' wings Blowing under waves black as crows' wings Somehow, we'll have to find The sun that we left in each other's mouths 'Cause i still have the light you left in my teeth And now the day, it throws me out on the streets And now the day, it throws me out of your reach This will be the end of garden mothers Throwing their fists through the walls Failing to catch the falling hope clouds She will need to have fireflies in her belly today To shine their light on a path so she won't stray So she won't stray So when she leaves the sky behind She will find herself Blowing through the forest black as crows' eyes Glowing through the forest black as crows' eyes So when she leaves the sky behind She will find herself Blowing through the forest black as crows' eyes Glowing through the forest black as crows' eyes Blowing through the forest black as crows' eyes

Old magic
Oh we've lost the old magic Even tragic could not be a child to this And when dolphins sink like stones We will know that everyone's reached a higher heaven For I have seen through your dear dear soul All in gowns of velvety brown and faun-fire And I wanna make the run with the Coho Up a dyin' river going home To a higher heaven And I have seen you watching him Metal and black powder Elk teeth of ivory The pounding of leather Old coins in his eyes And ever magic hands And constellation skin I have seen you watching him And we ran through the mule shadows Hand in hand Sorrows in sorrows Chased by plastic deer and tarp spirits Tripping over tools and owl pellets Years of dusty praying You picked a pouch off of your dad's tree Poured it in my mouth to show me How he'd saved all your baby teeth Rob from always on the run is so bad and copy paste is a sin You said special fears they always win like A river been robbed of it's bend A braid you just don't want to end A snake who knows he'll never stand And fingers that can't find their hand A bead you just can't seem to strand Oh don't you know that feeling? Like someone's been stealing All your kindling So you taught the stones to talk On the faun-fire path you walk You taught the flames to talk On the faun-fire path you walk You taught the stones to talk On the faun-fire path you walk You taught the flames to talk On the faun-fire path you walk Walk with him

I have heard about this About walking into a room And the floor being covered with snake skins Snake skins, how I wanna crawl back in To them, like sleeping bags And I need this like I need paper-thin fins How I envy the herring Always on their way In easy flashes Tiny lightnings Glinting Like sparks when hooves Strike flint Well I feel like I am swimming through stone So I'll hold my brain out of the water As I swim my remains back to him 'Cause the last thing that I need is a wet brain During the hurricane So I'll rest my weary head Between the egret's beak So I can hear you sing The salmon eggs to sleep With the songs of the wild The wild, the wild Rob from always on the run is so bad and copy paste is a sin I thought the coast was clear I thought the coast was clear But I'm wading through dead skeeters Through wriggling larvae Through blood suckers But I've never sucked blood before this No, I've never sucked blood before this I've never sucked blood before this And I knew better But I walked right in again There is that floor all covered with Owl pellets I examine the tiny bits Of wonder and decay All mystified At the little skeletal Glories I wonder what went on in the rabbit's hole And how these tiny things cannot seem to escape Until we are left with snakeskin And matted fur Hair thin Oh hair thin Bones
White fanged foreverness
When hawks glide underwater And salmon replace the unborn The forgotten will rise from the oceans Nests of kelp all strewn in their horns And whispering "Please take us back. Please take us back. We've learned our lessons." And Kate will break in down here Without your seasons and fearless snow And Kate will break in down here Without your seasons and fearless bones And white fanged foreverness Bare footed wilderness Green tangled gills need rest And we can be forever blessed We can be forever blessed If we take the back roads like you said If we take the back roads And here on this pile of shell I call out To the pods all gathered like thunderheads Under-in our hands Crying with your songs like a peaceful death Please teach us release Teach me release Rob from always on the run is so bad and copy paste is a sin 'Cause Kate will break in down here Without your seasons and fearless snow And Kate will break in down here Without your seasons and fearless bones And white fanged foreverness Barefooted wilderness Green tangled gills need rest And we can be forever blessed We can be forever blessed If we take the back roads like you said If we take the back roads And here on this pile of driftwood I will Carefully string up Stick by stick Thin by thick Bit by bit Rib by rib Rib by rib Rib by rib Rib by rib Until a marble of you dances and chants "In perfect balance take me back. In perfect balance take me back. I've learned my lesson." And white fanged foreverness Barefooted wilderness Green tangled gills need rest And we can be forever blessed We can be forever blessed If we take the back roads like you said If we take the back roads
Twin Song This, this is And this, this is Banjo blues, confused train Track me down And this, this is And this, this is Lanterns strung on wolves letting out howls Burning leaves, leaving me smoky And bats hang from The tired eyes in the hills of holes To my high heaven Where my twin'll take my hand Where my twin'll drink my vein Where my twin'll drag me down Where my twin'll feel the same And where my twin'll grab my mane And ride me wild into that higher heaven Rob from always on the run is so bad and copy paste is a sin And this, this is And this, this is Settling down in our heads But we thought it was rain Now we're fighting the snow And chewing on these grains But we still don't know How to sew our seeds back to the ground So I'll need my twin to take my hand Need my twin to drink my vein Need my twin to drag me down Need my twin to feel the same I'll need my twin to grab my mane And ride me wild into that higher heaven High, higher heaven High, higher heaven High, higher heaven I want my twin to take my hand Want my twin to drink my vein Want my twin to drag me down Want my twin to feel the same I want my twin to grab my mane And ride me wild into that higher heaven This, this is And this, this is Banjo blues, confused train Track me down
Tule Even though we sleep like ferns I still feel like I'm gone for good And even though we sleep like ferns I still feel like I'm gone for good I still feel like I'm gone And whether it's the anther, python, panther They still breathe hard wind Hard wind, hard wind, lumber and blood Hard wind, hard wind, who has the guts To spill them, spill them from way, way up Well we're just floating on our backs Tea parties underwater Summer's made of salt, swimming until We dissolve Into the sweet eye of the storm And we are here, we are here, oh Rob from always on the run is so bad and copy paste is a sin Forever naked, forever waitin', forever loved by the water Swing with me softly, pull me up closely To that neck that smells of pine trees Smile that reminds me of shelter Oh can't we cling like magnets? Muddy dirt road, sleet and snowfall The time we spent up north is made of good Made of good But there's a dog decoy of Tule Drifting out of reach Please wait, please With me, Tule, oh Tule Pretending to be drowned How long can I hold this breath? I'm dangling my arms Buoyant body Becoming the greenery Until I am here Until I am here Oh Forever naked, forever waitin', forever loved by the water Swing with me softly, pull me up closely To that neck that smells of pine trees Smile that reminds me of shelter Oh can't we cling like magnets? Muddy dirt road, sleet and snowfall The time we spent up north is made of good Made of good And I was visited by the water snake I was visited by the water snake She looked me over, I was shaken She told me in tongues of wings In a language that sounds like the rustling of leaves: That the Lord's been, Lord's been eating again So go on, go on, take my heart wind This last old wild thing that's blowin' With good dreams, wood beams, good good good good good things With the smolderings of love and armor The smolderings of love and armor And seeing the scene, being the bean, oh Seeing the scene, being the bean, oh Seeing the scene, being the bean, oh
Grief in Exile Black Snakes Our skin tied over the drum An elder's eyes into the woods did run Children tied into the drum A newborn's tears with the river did run Eagle crying over the drum An ancient seed smiles into the light of the sun While Medusa's head of black snakes Tears through the loss and what remains Praying there's dogs snap between labor pains Empty words spoken again and again The Sacred Hoop broken that we're trying to mend So we'll split the light in two, we'll split the light in two We'll split the light in two, we'll split the light in two We'll split the light in two, we'll split the light in two We'll split the light in two, we'll spit the light in you Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne-o-a Our men within the drum Spirit ladder starlight the rungs Women feeding the drum Planting kernels of corn awakening has begun Wolf crying over the drum Ancient seeds smile into the light of the sun While Medusa's head of black snakes Tears through the loss and what remains Praying there's dogs snap between labor pains Empty words spoken again and again The Sacred Hoop broken that we're trying to mend So we'll split the light in two, we'll split the light in two We'll split the light in two, we'll split the light in two We'll split the light in two, we'll split the light in two We'll split the light in two, we'll spit the light in you Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne Ya-na-we-na-he-ya-wa-na-he-ne-o-a Baby Wave Tried to carry a baby wave To her cradle, but she slipped away And even boat arms could not save her From a red coral grave And silence, silence, an alien silence Crept over the wildlife When you took yours And balance, balance, earthy balance Fled from our lives When you took yours And violence, violence, ungodly violence Tore through my mind When you lost yours Held on to all my eels But I lost my feelings To the fated scarabs wings Where iridescent honor rings And silence, silence, an alien silence Crept over the wildlife When you took yours And balance, balance, earthly balance Fled from our lives When you took yours And violence, violence, ungodly violence Tore through my mind When you lost yours Goose Song Where has my goose gone Down as soft as light of dawn Where did my goose go Was he lost to blinding snow Where has my goose flown Finest gander I have known In this mess again I guess it's supposed to be A lesson in get lonely And lay by your own side Could you see me call tonight I was pulsing and alive Like beckoning starlight I thought geese mate for life But where has my goose gone Where did my goose go Where has my goose flown Never Known Never known this kind of love Like my heart found her den of cubs Never known this kind of fear The pheasant feels the hunter near Never felt so awake Painfully clear what is a stake Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, ya Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, ya Phoenix in the temple of flames Forgotten from where we came Feathered ash where once were names Become from where we became So remember your honor to cry Spirits can't drink from dry eyes Remember your honor to grieve The well's dryer than you'd believe Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, ya Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, ya Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, ya Grief in Exile On a hallowed wind The song of a missing twin I could have sworn that he'd be dead (laid to rest) In a sweet grass and cedar bed (dressed in his best) A child of God an ancient seed smile (all the while) A Grief in exile A Grief in exile Grief in exile Hold on tight and like a child You won't miss a beat you'll just skip stones A lioness and a coward My power prowess and prayer My truth feeding in the lair Bloody paws mane of flowers Our powers out magic theirs Our truth feeding in the lair So gather the necessities For a ceremony, oh life Only take what you need And learn to give thanks for your time Abalone shells sage and cedar Tend to the coals that feed Imaginations of ether Beat with the arteries That burn with a humble fever Tend to the ones in need Of an honorable griever Bend with the corn and weed out The creeping deceiver All the while Grief in exile Hold on tight and like a child You won't miss a beat you'll just skip stones A lioness and a coward My power prowess and prayer My truth feeding in the lair Bloody paws mane of flowers Our powers out magic theirs Our truth feeding in the lair So gather the necessities For a ceremony, oh life Only take what you need And learn to give thanks for your time Abalone shells sage and cedar Tend to the coals that feed Imaginations of ether Beat with the arteries That burn with a humble fever Tend to the ones in need Of an honorable griever Bend with the corn and weed out The creeping deceiver Behind the Veil How to forgive Being pushed from the edge of the cliff How to forget When giving was all I had left All time is deaf Loss we've all heard to expect Blanketed in fig leaf and death Oh, the fleeting caress The end merely a guess Don't know how to love my way through the fall Don't know how to rise with the weight of the gall Don't want to spit out your own tail The vine flowers around endless scales And children were peaking from behind the veil How to forgive Being pushed from the edge of the cliff How to forget When giving was all I had left All time is deaf Loss we've all heard to expect Snow Knows White And when the spell breaks It might break your fall But when the fall stands The heart's still at fault Fumble through the days Can't seep, I just lie Starving bleary eyed Electric eels my spine And these sweetest birds Just drop in mid flight And I have known you Like snow knows white I have known you Like the bull knows the fight Like snow knows white And all of the webs We swallowed with pride All of my spiders inside Oh I will spin the sun And return with Saturn And I have known you Like fire knows the burn And I will burn true 'Till seasons lose their turn 'Till seasons lose their turn Oh I will burn through and through So won't you come along Bring the countless wrongs Promise not to stay long But stars caught in the web shine Constellation of this life I took myself as my own wife Could no longer leave her behind All my branches they're raven lined All my smartest birds gone blind Oh but the wing of love's feathers light Up my unborn song inside All my planets they sing inside With my unborn's song inside And when the spell breaks It might break your fall But when the fall stands The heart's still at fault Fumble through the days Can't seep, I just lie Starving bleary eyed Electric eels my spine And these sweetest birds Just drop in mid flight And I have known you Like snow knows white I have known you Like the bull knows the fight Like snow knows white Coyote With the Flowering Heart I've bathed in the yarrow and the rose Remember it's not just babies that grow Though they might hold the miricale first breath Air's not the only beginning you'll know Trickster we slip into the old ways And with your crooked ears we play Coyote with the Flowering Heart Can't even tell my own selves apart And the catalyst shows As a belly with your own Honest as an oak As sudden as flash flooding Obsessive as smoke Remote as the Dead Sea So embarassing I'll still be your coat In colder than below zero I'll try and act normal Waiting for her Waiting for her Waiting for her And running off would be the cruelest herb Forgot I knew just how to be heard Coyote with the Flowering Heart Bouquet your veins till death do you part And happiness an Invisible horse Someone please feed that strong beast before All we have left are motherless foals In soft bales of hay, miracles unfold And the catalyst shows As a belly with your own Honest as an oak As sudden as flash flooding Obsessive as smoke Remote as the Dead Sea So embarrassing I'll still be your coat In colder than below zero I'll try and act normal Waiting for her Waiting for her Waiting for her Love Like Water This love Like water of life Fell for the summer Home in each other We'll finally be safe for winter We nursed an infant stream Headwaters crystalline I knew you survived this time Sucked stones dry for the divine Might have rose a thousand lives To meet this ocean wide With this love Like water That might frost over anger Like this childless night Be born to remember We nursed an infant stream Headwaters crystalline I knew you survived this time Sucked stones dry for the divine Might have rose a thousand lives To meet this ocean wide And in the vision Black snakes Headless and hollow Hang from the soul's gate Twins shriek in unison The language of the land does follow And bison like mountains Blooming with Foxglove Circle around the calves of love Hallowed dove I found you Not a moment too soon This love Like water Of life fell for the summer Home in each other We'll finally be safe for winter My Birds Empty Where she once filled a void in my home But it's ok I'll live while alone circles the womb Afraid of the "we" But I'm still standing while the rock in my hand turns to dust I'm still breathing while the air in my lungs falls like sand And I'm still needing the generous love of my man And I'm still weaving this life with iridescent strands And we're all fucking nuts but the future still depends on us Mourning birds they bring in the dawn, the dawn's unfolding wings My birds they bring in the dawn, the dawn's unfolding wings My birds they sing for the dawn, the dawn's unfolding wings But I'm still standing while the rock in my hand turns to dust I'm still breathing while the air in my lungs falls like sand And I'm still needing the generous love of my man And I'm still weaving this life with iridescent strands And we're all fucking nuts but the future still depends on us Mourning birds they bring in the dawn, the dawn's unfolding wings My birds they bring in the dawn, the dawn's unfolding wings My birds they sing for the dawn, the dawn's unfolding wings Alive, alone, still got my bones Alive, alone, can still cast shadows Alive, alone, won't my love come home Alive, alone, still got my songs Alive, alone, I can still turn stones Alive, alone, a void in my home Alive, alone, avoiding my home While my birds they bring in the dawn My birds they bring in the dawn My birds they sing for the dawn My birds they sing for the dawn The dawn's unfolding wings

Circle of Signs (Circle of Signs EP) In the red budding of love Forgot we even had blood Sea of roses calls our bluff Sea of horses rose to meet us In the circle of signs Salt our time Buoyant, fine In the rise Of every woman, man, creature, tide, child Licking their wounds to see if they're still wild In this reckless, generational dive Licking at our friends Who we’re trying to revive An incomprehensible weight of the times Most pivotal, honorable, to be alive And she burns California’s turn Will we ever learn Here in the circle of pines All eyes turn to whites Pile of our insides Nothing, nothing left to hide With prophesy, prayer and sacrament the youth will rise Still lynchings, screen addictions, evilness, lies What will it take Do we even need to survive Is this birth canal too tight For that star-swaddled consciousness To come earthside An incomprehensible weight of the times Most pivotal, honorable, to be alive My love burns Will he ever return California, I’m yours To ashes my heart’s turned To ashes our hearts turn So, just put them to rest In uncertainty’s urn Forgive us for each chance We refused to learn But book of the old ways Earth, Water, Seed, still turns But we will pay For every page burned

Stranger Song (Leonard Cohen) It's true that all the men you knew were dealers Who said they were through with dealing Every time you gave them shelter I know that kind of man It's hard to hold the hand of anyone Who is reaching for the sky just to surrender Who is reaching for the sky just to surrender And then sweeping up the jokers that he left behind You find he did not leave you very much Not even laughter Like any dealer he was watching for the card That is so high and wild He'll never need to deal another He was just some Joseph looking for a manger He was just some Joseph looking for a manger And then leaning on your window sill He'll say one day you caused his will To weaken with your love and warmth and shelter And then taking from his wallet An old schedule of trains, he'll say I told you when I came I was a stranger I told you when I came I was a stranger And now another stranger seems To want you to ignore his dreams As though they were the burden of some other I've seen that kind of man before His golden arm dispatching cards But now it's rusted from the elbow to the finger And he wants to trade the game he plays for shelter Oh, he wants to trade the game he knows for shelter You hate to watch another tired man lay down his hand Like he was giving up the holy game of poker And while he talks his dreams to sleep You notice there's a highway That is curling up like smoke above his shoulder It is curling just like smoke above his shoulder You tell him to come in, sit down But something makes you turn around The door is open, you can't close your shelter You try the handle of the road It opens, do not be afraid It's you my love, you who are the stranger It is you my love, you who are the stranger Well, I've been waiting, I was sure We'd meet between the trains we're waiting for I think it's time to board another Please understand, I never had a secret chart To get me to the heart of this or any other matter While he talks like this, you don't know what he's after When he speaks like this, you don't know what he's after So let's meet tomorrow if you choose Upon the shore, beneath the bridge That they are building on some endless river Then he leaves the platform for the sleeping car that's warm You realize, he's only advertising one more shelter And you say, "OK, the bridge or some place later." And then sweeping up the jokers that he left behind You find he did not leave you very much not even laughter Like any dealer he was watching for the card that is so high and wild He'll never need to deal another He was just some Joseph looking for a manger He was just some Joseph looking for a manger And then leaning on your window sill He'll say one day you caused his will To weaken with your love and warmth and shelter And then taking from his wallet An old schedule of trains, he'll say I told you when I came I was a stranger I told you when I came I was a stranger
Végre Vissza (Circle of Signs EP) Ashen faces, forests blazing Oh, what have we done? I daydream of tying lying tongues And who would dare drive a knife through the future Of their very own young Who would dare to set fire to the lungs Of the future generations Is there any of this madness to be undone Or is the web of change always being spun Are these songs of change always to be sung Holding my own head Sucking my thumb like a wee babe Am I the comfort for which I have often prayed Or am I still that dragon I could have sworn that I’d slayed Am I still the witch they tried so hard to burn away Are you that child from the riptide I tried but couldn’t save Datura at the foot of the earthly lover’s grave Is this our final bed we’ve left so crudely made I have kissed my own lonely lips, wiped my sodden cheeks Is this a deadly longing been bestowed to me Am I not half the woman I could have sworn to be Were you not that hermit who had promised wings Are we not the freedom witnessed through the spring I’ve heard liberty’s bell ringing even over screams Am I not that anchored woman who’s battled the sea Am I not treasure enough to keep Now where’s that Holy Ghost, or did we spook it Where’s that gentle one I’ve died a hundred lives to meet He who over coals did walk and truth only did speak Who, starving, parted fields of corn And gold ears did not eat nor steal There’s this fancy hole in my heart I still seem to need to fill So kneel at the feet of the mother you know is here to heal For this great shift I know we were born to feel But that selkie woman’s seal skin must be returned for real And seal with love cracks that run through the hearts of wounded men From this prophesied fall, are we all to ascend And finally return to balance with the feminine And finally return to balance And finally return
