B i o g r a p h y With
his acoustic sound and timelessly soulful voice, British singer/songwriter
Michael Kiwanuka emerged to acclaim in 2011 combining folk, indie rock, and R&B
with traditions borrowed from his Ugandan heritage. Drawing favorable
comparisons to Curtis Mayfield, Terry Callier, and Van Morrison, Kiwanuka earned
a Mercury Prize nomination for his debut album, 2012's Home Again, and won the
BBC's Sound of 2012. He further cemented his reputation as a gifted and rootsy
performer with his sophomore album, 2016's Love & Hate, which went gold, landing
at number one in the U.K. |
Tell Me A Tale
Tell me a tale that always was
Sing me a song that I'll always be in
Tell me a story that I can read
Tell me a story that I believe
Paint me a picture that I can see
Give me a touch that I can feel
Turn me around so I can be
Everything I was meant to be
Lord, I need loving
Lord, I need good, good loving
Lord, I need loving
Lord, I need good, good loving
Show me some strength that I can use
Give me a sound that I won't refuse
Tell me story that I can read
Tell me a story that I can believe
Tell me a tale that always was
Sing me a song that I'll always be in
Turn me around so I can be
Everything I was meant to be
Lord, I need loving
Lord, I need good, good loving
Lord, I need loving
Lord, I need good, good loving
Lord, I need loving
Lord, I need good, good loving
Yeah, I need loving
Lord, I need good, good loving
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, woah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, woah, oh
Tell me a tale that always was
Yeah, tell me a story
I'm
Getting Ready
Oh my
I didn't know what it means to believe
Oh my
I didn't know what it means to believe
But if I hold on tight, is it true?
Would You take care of all that I do?
Oh Lord
I'm getting ready to believe
Oh my
I didn't know how hard it would be
Oh my
I didn't know how hard it would be
But if I hold on tight, is it true?
Would You take care of all that I do?
Oh Lord
I'm getting ready to believe
Then we'll be waving hands, singing freely
Singing standing tall, it's now coming easy
Oh, no more looking down, honey, can't you see?
Oh Lord, I'm getting ready to believe
Then we'll be waving hands singing freely
Singing standing tall it's now coming easy
Oh no more looking down, honey, can't you see?
Oh Lord, I'm getting ready
Oh Lord, I'm getting ready
Oh Lord, I'm getting ready to believe
I'll
Get Along
I know I didn't call
But I'll be alone in a little while
You know sometimes when I don't call
I'll still get along in a little while
I know sometimes I wonder
Sometimes I take too long
But I know where I'm headed
I know I'll belong
I know I didn't call
But I'll be alone in a little while
You know sometimes when I don't call
I'll still get along in a little while
Oh, I don't mean to leave you
When I'm up and I'm gone
You see I know where I'm headed
With you, where I belong
I know I didn't call
But I'll be alone in a little while
You know sometimes when I don't call
I'll still get along in a little while
I know I didn't call
But I'll be alone in a little while
You know sometimes when I don't call
I'll still get along in a little while
I know I didn't call
Sometimes when I don't call
I know I didn't call
I'll be alone
Sometimes when I don't call
Rest
Close your eyes
Let them rest
I ain't in no hurry, no hurry at all
Rest your head upon my shoulder
I swear I would carry, carry you on
I won't let you go, go on hungry
I won't let you cry, without a hand to dry
Rest your hands
Leave them tender
They weren't made for working, working at all
I won't let you go, go on hungry
I won't let you cry, without a hand to dry
Rest your soul, live in peace
I won't let you worry, worry at all
I won't let you worry, worry at all
I won't let you worry, worry at all
Home Again
Home again, home again
One day I know I'll feel home again
Born again, born again
One day I know I'll feel strong again
I left my head
Many times I've been told
All this talk will make you old
So I close my eyes, look behind
Moving on, moving on
So I close my eyes, look behind
Moving on
Lost again, lost again
One day I know our paths will cross again
Smile again, smile again
One day I hope to make you smile again
I won't hide
Many times I've been told
Speak your mind, just be bold
So I close my eyes, look behind
Moving on, moving on
So I close my eyes
All the tears will clear
Then I feel no fear
Then I'd feel no way
My paths will remain straight
Home again, home again
One day I know I'll feel home again
Born again, born again
One day I know I'll feel strong again
I left my head
Many times I've been told
All this talk will make you old
So I close my eyes, look behind
Moving on, moving on
So I close my eyes, look behind
Moving on
Bones
Honey, I've been thinkin' 'bout you
All that you do
Don't you think of me too
Lady, where you've been for so long
I don't mean you no wrong
Had to write you this song
Well I long to be alone with you
And if I couldn't have you I don't know
What I would do
I guess I would leave (I would leave)
This world alone (This world alone)
Cause without you I'm just bones (Bones)
Well I dream of you so much
Love you so much but
Thoughts aren't enough
Well I speak only of you
So what else is new
What am I to do
Well I long to be alone with you
And if I couldn't have you I don't know
What I would do
I guess I would leave (I would leave)
This world alone (This world alone)
'Cause without you I'm just bones (Bones)
Days go more and more I see
That your love is all my soul needs
But you're gone and now I'm fallin'
Fallin' to my knees
Well I long to be alone with you
And if I couldn't have you I don't know
What I would do
Well I long to be alone with you
And if I couldn't have you I don't know
What I would do
I guess I would leave (I would leave)
This world alone (This world alone)
'Cause without you I'm just bones (Bones)
I guess I would leave (I would leave)
This world alone (This world alone)
Cause without you I'm just bones (Bones)
I guess I would leave (I would leave)
This world alone (This world alone)
'Cause without you I'm just bones
Always Waiting
My soul is yearning and I'm longing too
See my day time, see me breaking through
My time is coming soon
So I'm waiting, I'll be waiting
For you, my friend
My load ain't burdened that I count me too
My key, my body, all the things that I do
My time is coming soon
So I'm waiting, I'll be waiting
For you, my friend
Oh, will it stay
Oh, will it break for me
A toll has taken all the song that's in me
The road they're making won't take me where I should be
My song is coming soon
So I'm waiting, I'll be waiting
Always waiting for you, my friend
I Won't
Lie
Oh, comfort me brother
Something's heavy on my mind
Now I sit and wonder
Why it is it that I can't find
Can't find peace all on my own
Can't seem to get there on and on
So come hear me brother
I won't lie
Now I have been broken
No longer am I blind
My lesser has spoken
Most of me is left behind
Won't find freedom here on my own
Can't seem to get there all alone
So come hear me brother
I won't lie
You never leave me
You'll always be part of the person I'll become
And I'll never leave you
You give me memories that I know could never leave
You never leave me
You'll always be part of the person I'll become
And I'll never leave you
You give me memories that I know could never leave
Won't find peace all on my own
Can't seem to get there on and on
So come hear me brother
I won't lie
So come hear me brother
I won't lie
Any Day Will Do Fine
Hey, listen girl
Can I get along with you
I'm in need of your time
Any day will do fine
Hey, listen girl
An hour or two will do
Just be gentle and kind
You'd really be easing my mind
My trouble upon you
There where you lay
But they'll never know
For I'm never sure
And your time will afford you
Might cost, I'm a pay, oh
They'll never know
For I'm never sure
Hey, listen girl
After this song is through
I'll be changing my ways
God knows I've seen better days
Hey, listen girl
Forgive me if I seem rude
Now your dues have been paid
Through this mess that we made
My trouble upon you
There where you lay, oh
But they'll never know
For I'm never sure
And your time will afford you
It might cost, I'm gonna pay, oh
But they'll never know
For I'm never sure, oh
Worry Walks
Beside Me
Worry walks beside me every day
They say I should run but it's comin' my way
I'll be doin' fine if you leave me behind
It's coming all over under my skin
Says if I follow I will die like a king
I'll be doin' fine if you leave me behind
What will it take to believe I can run
What will it take, when will I be done
Oh Lord, I've been trying
I find him standing here all the time
I find him trying to steal all that's mine, oh
I'll be doin' fine if you leave me behind
What will it take to believe I can run
What will it take, when will I be done
Oh Lord, I've been trying
What will it take to be free again
I wanna leave this behind
What will it take just to see again
All this is making me blind
What will it take to believe I can run
What will it take? When will I be done
Oh Lord, I've been trying
How does it feel to be flying away
How does it feel to believe today
Oh Lord, I've been trying
Worry walks beside me everyday
They Say
I'm Doing Just Fine
Here I am in Music City
It's my time to shine
It's just this song it doesn't fit me
Now I'm losing my mind
If only they told me I'd be so lonely
How I long for a song just to set me free
Here I am in Music City
They say I'm doing just fine
Well I'm running on empty
I guess they'll leave me behind
When I'm lost they'll forget me
Won't be coming to find me
My mother telling me who they think I should be
How I long for a song just to set me free
Here I am in Music City
They say I'm doing just fine
Think I can make it now I'm nearly through
Lord I just don't know what else to do
I'm crying out for a life line
Hey you know I'd give it to you
Trying so hard just to be true
Hey, I really need one more song come and set me free
No more leaving Music City
It's my battle to fight
So I'll stay here in Music City
I'll try with all of my might
Won't get the best of me
Just you wait and you'll see
I'll be singing my song
I'll be flying free
Here I am in Music City
And I'm doing just fine
Now I'm
Seeing
Home again
Home again
One day I know
I'll feel home again
Born again
Born again
One day I know
I'll feel strong again
I left my head
Many times I've been told
All this talk will make you old
So I close my eyes
Look behind
Moving on, moving on
So I close my eyes
Look behind
Moving on
Lost again
Lost again
One day I know
I'll pass for... again
Smile again
Smile again
One day I hope
To make you smile again
I won't...
Many times I've been told
So I close my eyes
Look behind
Moving on, moving on
So I close my eyes
And the tears will clear
That I feel no fear
Then I'd feel no way
My paths...
Home again
Home again
One day I know
I'll feel home again
Home again
Home again
One day I know
I'll feel strong again
I left my head
Many time I've been told
All this walk will make you old
So I close my eyes
Look behind
Moving on, moving on
So I close my eyes
Look behind
Moving on
Ode To You
I didn't mean at your feelings
I just needed a little time
I know I didn't say I mean it
I just needed a little time
And I know it's something we can talk about
Oh my friend I'll never leave you again
And I know it's something I was wrong about
Oh my friend I'll never leave you again
You came around when I was lonely
You came around just in time
That's something good to show me
You showed me just in time
You told me something good to talk about
Oh my friend you know you save me again
You told me something I was wrong about
Oh my friend you know I'll be here again
There'll be day when I'm lost
But I know how it costs to leave our friends behind
Now I'm gonna be free
And you will be there with me
There'll be day when I'm lost
But know how it costs to leave our friends behind
Now I'm gonna be free
And you will be there with me again
I didn't mean at your feelings
I just needed a little time
Cold Little Heart
Did you ever want it
Did you want bad
Oh, my
It tears me apart
Did you ever fight it
All of the pain, so much power
Running through my veins
Bleeding, I'm bleeding
My cold little heart
Oh I, I can't stand myself
And I know
In my heart, in this cold heart
I can live or I can die
I believe if I just try
You believe in you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
Did you ever notice
I've been ashamed
All my life
I've been playing games
We can try and hide it
It's all the same
I've been losing you
One day at a time
Bleeding, I'm bleeding
My cold little heart
Oh I, I can't stand myself
And I know
In my heart, in this cold heart
I can live or I can die
I believe if I just try
You believe in you and I
In my heart, in this cold heart
I can live or I can die
I believe if I just try
You believe in you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
In you and I
Maybe this time I can be strong
But since I know who I am
I'm probably wrong
Maybe this time I can go far
But thinking about where I've been
Ain't helping me start
Black Man
In A White World
I've been low, I've been high
I've been told all my lies
I've got nothing left to pray
I've got nothing left to say
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white...
I'm in love but I'm still sad
I've found peace but I'm not glad
All my nights and all my days
I've been trying the wrong way
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I feel like I've been here before
I feel that knocking on my door
I feel like I've been here before
I feel that knocking on my door
And I've lost everything I had
And I'm not angry and I'm not mad
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I've been low and I've been high
I've been told all my lies
I've got nothing here to pray
And I've got nothing left to say
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm in love but I'm still sad
I've found peace but I'm not glad
All my nights and all my days
I've been trying the wrong way
I'm a black man in a white world
(I don't mind who I am)
I'm a black man in a white world
(I don't mind who you are)
I'm a black man in a white world
(I'm not wrong, I'm not wrong)
I'm a black man in a white world
(Oh it's alright, it's alright)
I'm a black man in a white world
(Oh it's alright)
Falling
Right or wrong, we've been through it all
Can't believe it's over now
Understand that you'll love again
Word my friends say to me
On my own, all my hope is gone
I dig my knees into the ground
Oh I know, it's so hard to see
Look what you done to me
I'm falling
I'm falling
I'm falling again
I'm falling
I'm falling
I'm falling again
I don't know why I stayed so long
I always knew you'd let me down
I'm the man who belongs alone
Thought that was plain to see
Now you've come back into the fold
You're telling me you want me now
Let me go, leave my head alone
Look what you've done to me
We're falling
We're falling
We're falling again
We're falling
We're falling
We're falling again
Babe, we're falling
Only falling
But we're falling again
Babe, we're falling
Oh we're falling
So far we're falling
We're falling again
Place I Belong
oh, look all around
I get the feeling something is wrong
Oh, I'm moving on
My friends are leaving, my friends are gone
You're walking fast
You're losing
You're leaving your path behind
You're going home
Oh, what's on your mind
You're growing older, you're losing time
Oh, it's so unkind
There ain't nobody you can find
You're walking fast
You're losing
You're leaving your path behind
You're going home
I'm when I'm here on my own
I'm in a place I belong
I'm when I'm here on my own
I'm in a place I belong
Love & Hate
Standing now
Calling all the people here to see the show
Calling all my demons now to let me go
I need something, give me something wonderful
I believe
She won't take me somewhere I'm not supposed to be
You can't steal the things that God has given me
No more pain and no more shame and misery
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down
Love and hate
How much more are we supposed to tolerate
Can't you see there's more to me than my mistakes
Sometimes I get this feeling - makes me hesitate
I believe
She won't take me somewhere I'm not supposed to be
You can't steal the things that God has given me
No more pain and no more shame and misery
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down
You can't break me down
I can see a place of trouble
And I'm on the verge
For the love of everybody
I need something more
Now I feel some days of trouble
I'm in the house of war
For the love of everybody
Look behind the wall
Standing now
Calling all the people here to see the show
Calling all my demons now to let me go
I need something, give me something wonderful
One More Night
One more night
One more night till the morning
One more night
One more night till the day
I'll be right
I'll be right in the morning
I'll be alright
I'll be right in the day
But I believe it
One more night till the morning
But I believe it
One more night till the morning
I'll be trying
I'll be trying in the morning
I'll be trying
I'll be trying in the day
No more lies
No more lies in the morning
No more lies
No more lies in the day
But I believe it
One more night till the morning
But I believe it
One more night till the morning
I'll be holding on
Holding in
I'll be holding on
And holding in
I'll be holding on
And holding in
One more night
One more night till the morning
One more night
One more night till the day
I'm on fire
I'm on fire for the morning
I'm on fire
I'm on fire for the day
But I believe it
One more night till the morning
But I believe it
One more night till the morning
One more night till the morning
One more night till the morning
One more night till the morning
I'll
Never Love
I'll never love somebody
I'll never love somebody
Leave me cold
Trouble song in the moonlight
Will be my bride
I'll never need somebody
I'll never need somebody
Leave me alone
A worried mind in the violence
Will be my guide
I'll never hold somebody
I'll never hold somebody
For very long
I make love but only for a night
And I'll be gone
I'll never love somebody
I'll never love somebody
Leave me cold
The trouble song in the moonlight
Will be my bride
Will be my bride
Will be my bride
Rule The World
Do I have to rule the world
Or will it come to me
Do I have to live in doubt
Or will it turn to me
Do I have to lose my mind
Cause it's been wandering
Will they ever let me out
I've been wondering
Help me to see
Who I can be
Help me to know
Where I can go
(Take me)
Take me out of myself again
(Help me)
Help me lose control
(Show me)
Show me love, show me happiness
(Love me)
I can't do this on my own
I don't understand the game
Or who I meant to be
It's driving me insane
The way you're playing me
Help me to see
Who I can be
Help me to know
Where I can go
(Take me)
Take me out of myself again
(Help me)
Help me lose control
(Show me)
Show me love, show me happiness
(Love me)
I can't do this on my own
(Take me)
Take me out of myself again
(Help me)
Help me lose control
(Show me)
Show me love, show me happiness
(Love me)
I can't do this on my own
(Take me)
Take me
(Help me)
Help me
(Show me)
Show me
(Love me)
Lo-o-ove
(Take me)
(Help me)
(Show me)
Show me love, show me happiness
I can't do this on my own
(Take me)
(Help me)
(Show me)
Take me out of myself again
Help me lose control
Show me love, show me hapiness
I can't do this on my own
Father's
Child
Feels like I've been here before
All things don't seem the same no more
Although I know I'm my mother's child
I gotta break free into the wild
Some things just seem to take so long
I've been thinking 'bout what's gone wrong
I've been searching for miles and miles
Looking for someone to walk with me
Walk with me (walk, walk)
Walk with me (walk, walk)
Walk with me (walk, walk)
Walk with me (walk, walk)
All this doubt's been troublin' me
There's so much more that I can be
It feels like I'm on borrowed time
You got yours, I gotta take what's mine
Walk with me (walk, walk)
Walk with me (walk, walk)
Walk with me (walk, walk)
Walk with me (walk, walk)
Walk with me
Walk with me, I know who I wasn't supposed to be
Walk with me, show me the right direction
Walk with me, although I've been searching all my life for where I'm supposed be
I am my mother's child
Walk with me, show me pure affection
Walk with me, show me the right direction
I am my father's child, even though I walk
No more, no more
I am more than things you won't forgive
Walk with me
I am more than things you won't forgive
Walk with me
So walk with me
The Final Frame
I said I wanted you
And you from the start
I could tell you apart
But my heart fell and broke in two
You felt the pain for my foolish games
Didn't know what I stood to lose
I realized, that you'd be my life, it's true
Love's been a strain, a strain in my heart
I'm numb to the feeling
It's too late, to run away
The final frame will never know
Just float away, in our parade
Of love and pain, away we go, away we go
I said I wanted to
Do all I can, to be a good man
But the scene I fell into
Took me away, but what can I say
It's the times, I'm living through
And we can't pretend
We're reaching the end, it's true
Love's been a strain, a strain in my heart
I'm numb to the feeling
It's too late, to run away
The final frame will never know
Just float away, in our parade
Of love and pain, away we go, away we go
You Ain't
The Problem
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
[x2]
Love makes you blind
I hope to find
Who I believe in
Get back in line
I can't deny myself
Show me the feeling
Oh, you got me wrong
If you don't belong
Live in the trouble
Don't hesitate
Time heals the pain
You ain't the problem (I know)
I lived a lie
Love is the crime
It's you I believe in (I know)
No need to play myself
No need to die
I'm only human (I know)
I'm done, you got to put me on
I know when you come along
Don't hesitate
Time heals the pain
You ain't the problem
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
[x2]
I point the gun
They shoot for fun
You are the problem
I try to help myself
You are the one
Do all the talking
You got me wrong
I caught you falling
I hear you calling
Don't hesitate
Time heals the pain
You ain't the problem (I know)
I lived a dream
I hope to be
Who I believe in (I know)
I used to hate myself
You got the key
Break out the prison (I know)
Ah, I hope to never see time passing
Don't hesitate
Time heals the pain
You ain't the problem
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
[x3]
Rolling
No tears for the young
A bullet if you run away
Another lost one
Like father, like son, we pray
Rolling with the times
Don't be late
Rolling with the times (Rolling)
Don't be late
Phantom pain in your arm
Tryna make a mark and change
It's tearing you apart
Afraid of the darker days
Rolling with the times
Don't be late
Rolling with the times (Rolling)
Don't be late
Don't be late
Yeah, rolling with the times
Don't be late
Roll on down
Don't be late now
Stay on down (Rolling)
Rolling with the times, rolling with the times, yeah
Won't you roll? Won't you stay around town
Oh, gotta be on (Rolling)
I've
Been Dazed
I've been dazed
My pride is gone
My mistake
Guess I'll move on
London days
It's cold outside
Lost my way
You know I've tried
Won't you carry on
Won't you carry on
Help me carry on
Won't you carry on
The Lord said to me (The Lord said to me)
Time is a healer (Time is a healer)
Love is the answer (Love is the answer)
I'm on my way (I'm on my way)
The Lord said to me (The Lord said to me)
Time is a healer (Time is a healer)
Truth is the answer (Truth is the answer)
I'm on the way (I'm on the way)
Lost my way
You know I've tried
The Lord said to me
Help me carry on
Won't you carry on
(The Lord said to me, the Lord said to me)
Oh, won't you carry on
Oh, won't you carry on
Now I can carry on
I need peace of mind
Help me carry on, on
I need peace of mind
Help me carry on
Piano
Joint (This Kind Of Love) (Intro)
And you been high tonight
And you will fly tonight
And you will come tonight
And you will ride, will ride, will ride tonight
Piano Joint
(This Kind Of Love)
Walking down the avenue
Looking out for something new
It's the right time to give in
The right to lose
To begin again
Maybe win again
All I want is to talk to you
Turn me onto something true
I can't be with another
Although I've been used
I won't leave again
Help me to the end
All I know is my oh my, this kind of love
It's taken me from my enemies
Don't let the pressure get to me
My oh my, it's bad enough
Could you stay with me
Don't let me go
Sadness and fury is all I know
You've taken from my enemies
I still let the pressure get to me
I thought I could break away
I hope I fall in love today
No more heartbreak and trouble
I know I've been bruised
Let me in again
I could use a friend
All I know is my oh my, this kind of love
It's taken me from my enemies
Don't let the pressure get to me
My oh my, it's bad enough
Could you stay with me
Don't let me go
Sadness and fury is all I know
You've taken me from my enemies
I still let the pressure get to me
Another Human Being
(And for the first time)
(The community was confronted with negroes)
(In places where they have never been, where they have never been)
(You cause no violence, you have no angry words)
(The idea, that here sits beside me, another human being)
Living In Denial
They'll watch you fall, break your heart, watch you bleedin'
You gots to fall with me
It gets too far when you need paranoia
Don't bother me, yeah
Done tryin' to play the fool, don't you
You're finding out your heart is out of bounds, yeah
And hiding from the truth won't last
Talk about dealing in the past
Don't apologize
It's not enough just to cause a reaction
Who you tryna please
Know applause come before satisfaction
Say what you mean, yeah
I guess you heard the news, baby
Findin' out it ain't really all about, yeah
'Bout playin' by the rules, baby
Talk about livin' in denial
And you try and try
Fallin' in and out of love
Did you ever give enough love
Are you really givin' up
Are you really gonna stop right now (Right now)
I've been livin' in denial
Livin' in denial
I've been livin' in denial
Livin' in denial
I've been livin' in denial
Hero (Intro)
I won't change my name
No matter what they call me
I lost my only friend
And I'll grieve you till the end
Am I a hero
Am I a hero now
To die a hero
Is all that we know now
Hero
Am I a hero
Am I a hero now
Am I a hero
Am I a hero now
Yeah
Please don't shoot me down
I love you like a brother
It's on the news again
I guess they killed another
Am I a hero
Am I a hero now
To die a hero
Is all that we know now
Oh, we all get told to go alone
Oh, we know it's hard for sure
We know
We know
Am I a hero
Am I a hero now
To die a hero
Is all that we know now
Yeah
(Oh, yeah)
(Oh, yeah)
Am I a hero
A fallen hero now
Hear my sin Lord
So he ain't no hero now
Am I a hero
My gun to reload now
A broken people
There go a hero now
Hard To Say Goodbye
Little butterfly without wings, how do you fly
You're holdin' on so tight that you don't even try
And if I had a dream (If I had)
What would be sunshine for me
You are my air to breathe
You're just like honey to a bee
Better believe I'll be back
It's hard to say goodbye
Better believe I'll be back
It gets you every time
When you appeared to me, you let me know what love could be
You gave me confidence, you showed me light, you stayed with me
It's you I'm dreamin' of (You I'm dreamin' of)
Night and day when I contemplate
You are my everything
I'm standin' with you, you are my heart
Better believe I'll be back
It's hard to say goodbye
Better believe I'll be back
It gets you every time
Better believe I'll be back
It's hard to say goodbye
I feel it all around, there's a fire in my spirit
Leadin' you around 'cause I'm down tonight
Feelin' like a clown 'cause I'm cryin' every minute
We'll get by tonight, we'll get by tonight
Better believe I'll be back (Whoa, whoa)
It's hard to say goodbye
Better believe I'll be back (Whoa, whoa)
It gets me every time
Final Days
Lying on the ground
Feeling like a dyin' man
No reality
Fading memories
Following the crowd
Coulda been a stronger man
Plead insanity
I will die in these
Final days on the planet
Here we are, on the ground
Every day, automatic
Here we are, goin' 'round and 'round and 'round
Cryin' on the phone
Tryin' to make you understand
Livin' honestly
Is so hard for me
Such a heavy load
You know I really need a friend
You should walk with me
We belong in these
Final days on the planet
Here we are, on the ground
Every day, automatic
Here we are, goin' 'round
Final days on the planet
Failing arms, breaking down
Every day, automatic
Here we are, goin' 'round and 'round and 'round
Interlude
(Loving The People)
A moving feeling within me
That I was sitting there demanding a God-given right
And my soul became satisfied that I was right in what I was doing
At the same time there was something deep down within me
Moving me
That I could no longer be satisfied or go along with an evil system
That I had to be maladjusted to
And in spite of all of this, I had to keep loving the people
Who denied me service
Who stared at me
Solid Ground
How does it feel when it's quiet and calm
And will I be denied
How will it feel when it's time to move on
Mother says kneel and pray
When it gets hard, I will roll those sleeves
Life can be so unkind
I will be found on the edge of the world
Where there'll be no one around
Oh, solid ground
Solid ground
Solid ground
Solid ground
How does it feel to be on your own
No one to understand
I know I'm here and I don't belong
I'm on my knees today
When it gets dark, I will know no fear
Life can be so unkind
Hanging around on the edge of the world
Finally no one around, oh
Would you help me
I don't understand
Is it over
Am I losing solid ground
Solid ground
Solid ground
Solid ground
Solid ground
Solid ground
Solid ground
Solid ground
Solid ground
Light
We're miles apart
But safe from dreams
You're running from
Beyond the dawn
We'll always need
One of their own
To lead
(Shine your light over me)
Shine your light over me
(All of my fears are gone)
All of my fears are gone, baby, gone, gone
(And it don't bother me)
And it don't bother me, don't bother me, no
(If it's not meant to be)
Too far to run
Fall on your knees
To find a love
You're light to me
My only sun
You'll always shine
For me
(Shine your light over me)
Shine your light over me
(All of my fears are gone)
All of my fears are gone, baby, gone, gone
(And it don't bother me)
Don't bother me, don't bother me, no
If it's not meant to be
(Shine your light over me)
Shine your light over me
(All of my fears are gone)
All of my fears are gone, baby, gone, gone
(And it don't bother me)
It don't bother me, don't bother me, no
If it's not meant to be
I had to lose to understand
Strung out from all this
Pour out a thousand tears
I never knew a kinder man
A mile apart, leave and be free
A mile apart, leave and be free
A mile apart, leave and be free
A mile apart, leave and be free
A mile apart, leave and be free
A mile apart, leave and be free
A mile apart, leave and be free
A mile apart, leave and be free
Floating Parade
Oh, love, like this
Nothing like this, like this
Oh, love, like this
Nothing like this, like this
Oh, like this
Like this (Like this)
Oh, like this
Like this
We can't be stronger than life itself
We can be solid but hardly make a dent
So I'll be a full on child for a while
People keep talking about how pots don't melt
Well, we don't belong in this hard luck hand we're dealt
So we need foreign times to arrive
And we'll reach out to that floating parade
Don't wait
Oh, love, like this
Nothing like this, like this
Oh, love, like this
Nothing like this, like this
"Count all your blessings," my mother says
Don't keep repressing a heart that's heaven-sent
Fall on my knees to the sky for a sign
And I'll reach out to that floating parade
Don't wait
Oh, like this
Like this (Like this)
Oh, like this
Like this
Oh
Small Changes
Small changes
Solve the problems
We were revolving in your eyes
Wait for me
All this time, we
Knew there was something in the air
Small changes
On your mind
We'll follow from my soul
Miles till the end
Miles till the end
Do small changes
Ever last now
Or bemoan in my head
Wait four long
Years to find these
Sweet summer moments in the end
Small changes
On your mind
We'll follow from my soul
Miles till the end
Milеs till the end
Small changes
On your mind
Wе'll follow from my soul
Miles till the end
Small changes
Out of time
We'll follow from my soul
Miles till the end
Miles till the end
One and Only
I chased the waterfalls
I was the leaving kind
I never wasted time
You walked towards my call
You saw the warning signs
And didn't pay no mind
You got too much pride
Breaks your heart each time
You keep it all inside
I know you don't right now
But soon you'll see somehow
I'll never say goodbye
Young hearts burning
Wherever they take us to
Oh, darling
I'm always with you
My one and only, one and only
For the days, for the days ahead
One and only, one and only
Look again, look again my dear
I hope you realise
Memories are the compromisе we need to feel alive
Though our dreams may diе
No living in disguise, all we need is time
Old hearts yearning
Whatever we're going through
Oh, darling
I'm always with you
My one and only, one and only
For the days, for the days ahead
One and only, one and only
Look again, look again my dear
One and only, one and only
For the days, for the days ahead
One and only, one and only
Look again, look again my dear
One and only, one and only
One and only, one and only
One and only, one and only
Rebel Soul
Can't watch you fall
And cast your devils on to me
Gotta break all those chains
Too scared to show
All of your rebel soul
But I won't mind
No, I won't mind
Oh it's about that time
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Can't take no more
Telling me that you don't believe
Why should I be afraid
For you to go
And take back what I stole
Well, I don't mind
No, I don't mind
Oh would it be a crime
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Tell me you're moving up
Lowdown (Part I)
Early morning I rise
To the locals watching me
Make my way through the night
To the so called jubilee
Lowdown
I'm lowdown and out
Lowdown
I'm so down and out
In this town
I've been wrong half the time
Gotta wonder how I survived
I've been losing my touch
I've fallen under, I've had enough
Lowdown
I'm lowdown and out
Lowdown
I'm so down and out
In this town
Lowdown
I'm lowdown and out
Lowdown
I'm so down and out
In this town
Follow Your Dreams
Follow your dreams
Like a lost child
I'm gonna need your love
Follow your hope
All the time we bide
Tryna feel complete
All I see is solid gold
All my worlds collide
Cruising to explode
Take the feeling far away
Throw your hand in mine
Always holdin' on to me
Follow your dreams
(Fear no danger)
Follow your dreams
(Fear no danger)
Follow your dreams
(Fear no danger)
Follow your dreams
(Fear no danger)
Follow your dreams
(Fear no danger)
(Fear no danger)
(Fear no danger)
(Fear no danger)
(Come alive)
(Come alive, fеar no danger)
(Come alive)
(Comе alive, fear no danger)
Lies in my head
Pullin' me down
And leavin' me for dead
Blood in my eyes
All the time we spend
Tryna beat defeat
All I see are broken doors
Stay with me tonight
Teach me to believe
Take this feelin' far away
Throw your hand in mine
Always comin' back to me
Follow your dreams
(Fear no danger)
Follow your dreams
(Fear no danger)
Follow your dreams
(Fear no danger)
Follow your dreams
(Fear no danger)
Follow your dreams
Live For Your Love
Don't pretend, I won't let you down
Silence tends to hang the noose now
All my days are running out
Numbness fades to heavy doubt
Over and over again
I left you cold
Over and over, you take me back
I live for your love
Heard my name, did you just call out
Thought I became a face in your crowd
All my dreams are running out
Coming back to haunt me now
Over and over again
A door gets closed
Over and over, no coming back
I live for your love
Stay By My Side
You owe me no
Apologies
For all we know
We've never seen
No hearts designed
To be alone
But yours and mine
Overflow
In rollin’ tides
You're hoping that I won't leave the shore
Stay by my side
There’s nothin' that I would leave you for
Stay by my side
Things fall apart
It always seems
To haunt your heart
With vacant dreams
You're holding on
Way too tight
Don't fortify
Wasted time
In rollin' tides
You're hoping that I won't leave the shore
Stay by my side
There's nothin’ that I would leave you for
In rollin’ tides
You're hoping that I won’t leave the shore
Stay by my side
There's nothin' that I would leave you for
Stay by my side
The Rest Of Me
Back when I was lost
Stumbling around
You found me, now I can see
My feet won't touch the ground
Fighting through the pain
No longer remain
In that darker place
Lead me to the light
You don't seem to mind
Standing in the rain
I give you the hardest time
You're resolute to stay
Help me realise
There's nothing left to gain
Lord, I need your loving
God knows I gotta be
Leaving the rest of me behind
Behind yeah
With your heart right next to me
I'm leaving the rest of me behind
Behind us yeah
Hide me from the noise
But I can't stand the sound of silence
It's so hard for me, I needed you around
Calling out your name
Feel like I could drown
When I need your loving
God knows I gotta be
Leaving the rest of me behind
Behind yeah
With your heart right next to me
I'm leaving the rest of me behind
Behind us yeah
God knows I better be
Bringing the best of me this time
This time yeah
In the middle of love
In the middle of pain
You get high
You get high
In the middle of love
You get high, high
Don't cry
In the middle of pain
You get high
Four Long Years
Four long years
To say
You're not comin' back
To me either way
I volunteered
To stay
Am I dwellin' in the past
You'll never change
I fall in love
I fall in love all the way
I did what I needed to stay
To let go, someone's gotta pay
The cost
It's truly a shame
It's truly a shame
It's all I thought about
It's truly a shame
Four long years
To grow
Heard you're movin' on
Well I shoulda known
No one here
Would know
You look so relaxed
It just didn't show
Well I followed love
I followed love all the way
Thought I was winning the game
With no more moves to make
Thе score
It's truly a shame
It's truly a shame
All I thought about
It's truly a shamе
It's truly a shame
It's truly a shame
All I thought about
It's truly a shame
All My Life
(Beautiful Life EP)
All my life you've been watching me
All my life you would watch from afar
All my life you've been breaking me
All my life you've been breaking my heart
Like a ghost you've been walking along with me
But a ghost shouldn't feel this weak
All my life you've been chasing me
My whole life we've been racing like cars
Take me back to where I belong
Take me back, let me go from the start
Like a rope to the neck, you've been choking
I need someone to help me to breathe
I know you start the light
I know you cross the lines
I know you say we know
How to go, oh
All my life you've been breaking me
My heart with you, oh yeah
Beautiful Life
(from "Convergence" soundtrack)
Colors fool my brain as daylight fills my window
What a fool I was to sit and watch you go
Falling through my arms like whispers through my heartstrings
On and on, it goes
Running oh so far from days that left me lonely
People come sometimes and then they let you go
I don't know myself, but boy you really showed me
On and on, it goes
You give me life
Beautiful life
All my chains are gone and all the guns are loaded
I need someone close to never let me go
Someone's calling and I hear it like an echo
On and on, it goes
You give me life
Beautiful life
But it's a beautiful good life
I had the feeling my whole life
I was caught in a nightmare
Now we're breathing the same air
I live my life in a daydream
All the colors are so clean
And it's a beautiful good life
It's a beautiful good life
Someone love me 'cause I feel like I could explode
You made peace, I start a war all on my own
Falling through my arms like whispers through my heartstrings
On and on, it goes
You give me life
Beautiful life
But it's a beautiful good life
I had the feeling my whole life
I was caught in a nightmare
Now we're breathing the same air
I live my life in a daydream
All the colors are so clean
And it's a beautiful good life
It's a beautiful good life
It's a beautiful good life
It's a beautiful good life
You know the world is a jungle
But you don't have to crumble
'Cause it's a beautiful good life
It's a beautiful good life
It's a beautiful good life
Black Man In A
White World (Ghetto Gettysburg Address)
(feat. Mr. Books / "The Get Down" OST)
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I'm a black man in a white world
I can see the saddest life, a savage life
Snakes and thieves, every man has his price
It's hell below, who will or won't sell his soul
What's my goal? Go to jail or fail, hell no
In the streets there's a few ways out cause face it
Time is short, think fast while I resort
To a life of crime and fast cash?
Nah I'm destined to be king, stayin' on the right path
I'm in love, I feel sad
(I'm a black man in a white world)
I found peace and I'm not there
(I'm a black man in a white world)
All my nights and all my days
(I'm a black man in a white world)
I've been tryna runaway
(I'm a black man in a white world)
I'm left in a world oppressed
How do I express
My very own ghetto Gettysburg address
My platform is a rap song
Black man is politically attacked on the norm
My life's survivin', at night I'm ridin'
Smokin', hopin', dreamin', speedin'
White lightenin' steamin', streets triflin'
I keep writin', it gets deeper
My brother's keeper are divided?
I decided to keep risin', yeah
I'm in love, I feel sad
(I'm a black man in a white world)
I found peace and I'm not there
(I'm a black man in a white world)
All my nights and all my days
(I'm a black man in a white world)
I've been tryna runaway
(I'm a black man in a white world)
New York, the irrefutable
The city if you make it out here it's beautiful
And the streets can deceive you when the times are hard
And the pressure leaves your mind, body, and soul so scarred
I'm in love, I feel sad
(I'm a black man in a white world)
I found peace and I'm not there
(I'm a black man in a white world)
All my nights and all my days
(I'm a black man in a white world)
I've been tryna runaway
(I'm a black man in a white world)
(Let me out here)
We need to wisen up
We risin' up
These times is rough
(I'm a black man in a white world)
For real
(I'm a black man in a white world)
For real
(I'm a black man in a white world)
Yeah
(I'm a black man in a white world)
Yeah
(I'm a black man in a white world)
Yeah
(I'm a black man in a white world)
Let's rise
(I'm a black man in a white world)
Yeah
(I'm a black man in a white world)
Come on let's rise
(I'm a black man in a white world)
Come on y'all
(I'm a black man in a white world)
Yeah
(I'm a black man in a white world)
Flowers
(Little Simz feat. Michael Kiwanuka)
Michael Kiwanuka :
Sleep down, leap down
Little Simz :
Feel the pain of each troubled history
They'll wipe his memories then tell him his past is a mystery
What is life without victory
Opinion on liberty, enlighten me
How to stay sane in a world so mental
World sick enough, a voodoo child playin' "Purple Haze"
Can't get no relief, lonely hours, never temporary
He knows at some point he will escape eventually
Still goin' to heights, coincidentally, he's a mess
But still good at puttin' on a brave face for the camera
He smiles, you can tell it's fake, you can tell it's fake
The fee seldom that you be takin' to Heaven's gates
No ID, no entry, 27 club says
The good fly young, the good are our greats
Jimi, Basquiat, Amy, Robert, Janis, Kurt Cobain
Michael Kiwanuka :
When the stars die young
Took 27 years to realize
You already won
Flowers all, flowers all, flowers all, flowers all for you
Little Simz :
She's problematic, nobody can't stand it
Been told she's a liability and not an asset
Fuck how I'ma write it, confessions of an addict
How they let me sing to the masses?
Lost what I had starin' in the face of tragic
Like I didn't just Back to Black it
Love was my losin' game, let's just call a spade a spade
Paparazzi on my doorstep, never leavin' home
Lyin' on the floor, minds blown, tryna reach the phone
Let me take one more hit 'fore my eyes close
Let me take one more hit 'fore my eyes close
Shit, I think that was my last hit
Michael Kiwanuka :
One more hit before my eyes close
One more hit before my eyes close
One more hit before my eyes close
One more hit before my eyes close
Flowers all, flowers all, flowers all, flowers all for you
Flowers all for you
Little Simz :
Can you feel this energy, all we have is memories
Always heard but never seen, this is more than you know
Connect with my body and soul and do what my body is told
Picture a beautiful sight but not all that glitters is gold
Afraid of what the future may hold for me
Little Simz & Michael Kiwanuka :
If it's too late before they dismantle my desires
(Already won)
This is a formality (Flowers all, flowers all, oh)
Try not to be so optimistic (Already won)
[Outro: Michael Kiwanuka]
You already, you already won
You got the power, you got the power
Flowers all, flowers all for you
Whoa, all for you
I Need Your Company
(Tell Me A Tale (Isle Of Wight Sessions) EP)
Baby, baby, babe
How you been doing
'Cause lately things ain't been good for me
Baby, baby, babe
Feels like I'm losing
Please help me, I'm living inside of a tear
'Cause there's peace that I found
When I have you around
How I need your company
Baby, baby, babe
I've been confusing these days
To a place where there's time for tears
Baby, baby I've been refusing
Please help me, I didn't mean to let you down again
But there's peace that I found
When I have you around
How I need your company
Oh, I need your company
Lord knows I'm trying
Really, really trying
I've given all I can, why can't you see
Lord know I'm trying
Really, really trying
I've given all I can, why can't you see
But there's peace that I found
When I have you around
Oh, how I need your company
Oh, how I need your company
Oh, I need you
(I'm Getting Ready EP)
Far away, I've been so long away
I get a little lost, hey, but I've found my way
See I've been, wondering why, I keep losing, hey
How I need you, yes I need you by my side
Holding on, I'm barely holding on
When I hear your voice, oh, I can keep on
See I've been, healing this long, all on my on
How I need you, yes I need you by my side
Oh, no there's times that I'm not sure, but I need it
Uh, you're forever on my mind, don't know
Seen me on my own, seen me try
Yes, need you by my side, all the time
Heal the day, yes I can see the day
Oh, see how you made me strong, now I sing my song
See I've been, falling away, for a too long way
How I need you, yes I need you by my side
How I need you, yes I need you by my side
It Always Comes
Back Around
("House Of Lies" OST)
How long's the road ahead of me
How far back did you begin
Traveling fast
You never last
Never can be
Left you behind
I was unkind
I think you'll agree
It always comes back around
It always comes back around
How many times have you broken
How many ways did you fall
I fell in love
Long time ago
When I was young
I was so lost
So done before
It had begun
It always comes back around
It always comes back around
If ever you try to remember me
Think of the good
Think of the bad
When you feel low
Try to keep both
Feet on the ground
Watch what you say
All that you do
Will come back around
It always comes back around
It always comes back around
It always comes back around
It always comes back around
Lasan
When I leave, don't you cry
When I'm getting on the lucky side
Who will leave me alone
Uh when I've passed don't you cry
When I'm long and gone, will I decide
Who will leave you alone
Just you live your everyday, like you're running out of time
Say the things you say, don't leave everything behind
Try to find new somethings that won't fade away in time
These are things I'll always see on your side
Oh, when I'm lost, don't you cry
When I've gone away will at his side
Who will leave me alone
Uh, when I'm sleeping don't you cry
When I close my eyes, without your side
Who will leave you alone
Just you live your everyday, like you're running out of time
Say the things you say, don't leave everything behind
Try to find new somethings that won't fade away in time
These are things I'll always see on your side
Try to find new somethings that won't fade away in time
Money
(With Tom Misch)
Money, money, is it really love
Money, will it be love
Oh, man, again, I swear
Money, money, I feel it killing love
Money, will it be love
Oh, man, again, I swear
I think I want everything
Everything all on my own
Can't you see my diamond ring
Twenty thousand carat gold
Girl, I wanna talk to you
I can be your money tree
One hundred million, maybe three
More than I could ever see
Money, money, is it really love
Money, will it be love
Oh, man, again, I swear
Money, money, I feel it killing love
Money, will it be love
Oh, man, again, I swear
I can buy an aeroplane
Fly you all around the world
I'm spending when I feel ashamed
Spending 'cause I'm all alone
Girl, I wanna make you mine
Can't you give your heart to me
I would give you every dime
You're more than I could ever be
Money, money, is it really love
Money, will it be love
Oh, man, again, I swear
Money, money, I feel it killing love
Money, will it be love
Oh, man, again, I swear
All money lies, there's no surprise with that
When money tries to ruin everything
Pain in disguise, money can't cover up the lies
I need true love tonight
All money lies, there's no surprise with that
When money tries to ruin everything
Pain in disguise, money can cause a man to cry
I need true love tonight
Money, money, is it really love (Oh Lord, money, yeah, money can lie)
Money, will it be love (Money left, is this real, real love)
Oh, man, again, I swear
Money, money, I feel it killing love (Oh, money goes, money feels, money comes)
Money, will it be love (Money, money, money yeah)
Oh, man, again, I swear (Money yeah, money yeah, money yeah)
Money, money, is it really love
Money, will it be love
Oh, man, again, I swear
Money...
No More Running
("A Long Way Down" OST)
One, two, three, four
Mama she said
Got to keep him close to you
Got to keep him close to you
You might be alright
Mama she said
Got to keep him close to you
Got to keep him close to you
You might be alright
No more running through the alleys in the nighttime
No more running through the wars in the days
No more holding on to something just to leave you
Who goes running through those alleys anyway
Mama she said
Keep it behind you
Keep it behind you
You might be alright
Mama she said
Keep it behind you
Keep it behind you
You might be alright
No more running through the alleys in the nighttime
No more running through the wars in the days
No more holding on to something just to leave you
Who goes running through those alleys anyway
Mama she said
Hold your head up high
Keep your head up high
You might be alright
Mama she said
Hold your head up high
Keep your head up high
You might be alright
No more running through the alleys in the nighttime
No more running through the wars in the days
No more holding on to something just to leave you
Who goes running through those alleys anyway
On My Knees
(UNKLE feat. Michael Kiwanuka / Music Inspired By
The Film ROMA)
Whoa, on my knees
Whoa, I can't breathe
All that I ever prayed
That love would be where I stayed
Whoa, I can see
All that I believe
I know that I play the game
But I'll never be ashamed
I'm not trying to pass the blame
I'm just trying to protect my name
But you know I would die for you
What you dreamin', it can't be true
I can see how you tarnish me
How you gave me the third degree
I don't need to apologize
I could lie to you every night
When you stole from me everything
You just gave me a song to sing
You can leave me inside to die
What you mean is I never cry
There are things we can never see
I need God, would you pray for me
We've been lost in the memory
All the darkness was meant to be
Whoa, on my knees
Whoa, I can't breathe
All that I ever prayed
Love would be where I stayed
Whoa, I can see
All that I believe
I know that I play the game
But I'll never be ashamed
Whoa, on my knees
Oh, and I can't be
I can hear angels sing
I'm tired of the place I'm in
Whoa, holy ground
Give me the sweetest sound
I know where I'd rather be
The silence is heavenly
If I paint you a masterpiece
Would my pain and my hurt decrease
If I'm able to make you cry
Would you love me and want me more
I just want you to understand
That I'm only a broken man
And my heart it can only show
All the things we can never know
There's no need to apologize
We'll get back to the other side
I been walkin' on solid ground
Wait 'til you see what I have found
I've prayed for the stars above
I'm no longer the man you loved
I've become who I meant to be
When I needed you next to me
Whoa, on my knees
Whoa, I can't breathe
All that I ever prayed
Whoa, I believe, I believe, whoa, whoa
I believe, oh
I believe, yeah
Oh, I believe
That I'ma walk away
Oh, I believe
I'm walkin' now
Oh, I believe
Oh, oh, I believe
Oh, now, oh, I can see, yeah
Oh, I believe
Whoa, on my knees
Whoa, I can't breathe
All that I ever prayed
That love would be where I stayed
Whoa, I can see
All that I believe
I can hear angels sing
Tired of the place I'm in
Rule
The World (I Came From The City)
(With Nas feat. Nasir Jones as Mr. Books / The Get
Down OST)
Michael Kiwaunuka:
Do I have to rule the world
Or will it come to me
Do I have to live in down
Or will it turn to me?
Do I have to lose my mind?
'Cause it's been wandering
Will they ever let me out
I've been wondering
Nas:
I came from the city, yeah
I came from the city, yeah
I came from the city, yeah
I came from the city, yeah
Got my name from the city, where
The most dangerous city, let's take a trip back
Back in the time
1977, it was maximum crime
The president neglected us, him and 6 masterminds
Six powerful men put New York through some drastic times
The rich and selfish ones feed off the welfare ones
And which borough suffered the worst? Hmm where I'm from
The Bronx
We had to rumble with rivals on the rubble
While buildings around us would crumble
I dream right but it seem like nothing find me be trouble
I see the light, it's right there at the end of the tunnel
Had to find my rope to pull me up
'Cause I needed some kind of hope to fill me up
Till I met one guy, took 'em under the wing
I coulda died if this man ain't intervene
He was an orphan, my savior
Free spirited, no man braver
He was honored and gifted, his name was Shaolin Fantastic
The lady killin' romantic, can't forget the day we met
And this story be canceled but yo my life began last year
Sophomore High School, that summer I saw her, said to myself
She'll be my wife soon
Michael Kiwanuka:
Take me out of myself again
(Help me)
Help me lose control
(Show me)
Show me love, show me happiness
(Love me)
I can't do this on my own
Take me out of myself again
(Help me)
Help me lose control
(Show me)
Show me love, show me happiness
(Love me)
I can't do this on my own
Run Like The Breeze
("I Am Ali" OST)
Uuu, I get a feeling
People run around try to throw me down
Uuu, I mean really
So I take a swing, spun you around
Some, we got it really going on
You'd better run, run like the breeze
Uuu, I gotta move
People run around getting in my way
Uuu, I get naked
I got something to give, something to say
Some, we got it going on
You'd better run like the breeze
Some, we got it really going on
You'd better run, run like the breeze
Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child
(Fisk Jubilee Singers)
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
A long way is from home
Such a long way is from home
Way from home
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like I'm almost done
Sometimes I feel like I'm almost, almost done
Sometimes I feel like I'm almost, almost done
And I'm a long, long, long
Way from home
True believer
True believer
True believer
True believer
I'm a long, long, long, long, long
I'm a long, such a long
Way from home
Yo! My Saint
(Karen O Feat. Michael Kiwanuka)
Don't you tell another lie
Don't you tell another truth
My heart, it isn't bulletproof
From visions of you
Don't you know the way I feel
Can't you read my mind
Don't you read between the lines
For what's real
Forget'em, get'em, get'em
I used to rule the streets
I was young enough to know that
There was something to believe in
I'm tired of the lies they tell
I'm trying to disguise myself
The perfect crime that I'll commit
Is loving you despite all of it
Forget'em, get'em, get'em
I used to rule the streets
I was young enough to know that
There was something to believe in
I'm tired of the lies they tell
I'm trying to disguise myself
The perfect crime that I'll commit
Is loving you despite all of it
You’re my saint, you’re my saint
You’re my saint, you're my sensation
You’re my saint, you’re my saint
You’re my saint, you're my sensation
Set me free
To live my life
Whatever way
I want to be
Like smoke in a mirror
I disappear
Like smoke in a mirror
I disappear
Set me free
To live my life
Whatever way
I want to be
Like smoke in a mirror
I disappear
Like smoke in a mirror
I disappear
Don't you know my eyes, my eyes
They'll see you only
Don't you know my eyes, my eyes
They'll see you blue
Blue
My one and only
Don't you know my eyes, my eyes
They'll see you blue
Blue
My one and only
Blue
In blue
Don't you know my eyes, my eyes
They see you only
Don't you know my eyes, my eyes
They'll see you blue
In blue
My one and only
Don't you know my eyes, my eyes
They'll see you blue
